On what single item do you spend the most money in the grocery store?

    Assuming you shop at a grocery store or supermarket, what item costs you the most when you shop? Generically, most of the money I spend is on produce, but a single purchase of dog food or good coffee can be higher than a week's worth of fruits and vegetables for me.

    Meat and veggies, though the meat lasts longer. I buy veggies every week, where as I can stock up on a month's worth of meat. So if you were to do the math--and I'm not going to--might come out to the same amount.

    Wine's up there too...

    A good bottle of malt whiskey is often the most expensive single item when I do the shopping.

    I don't do the shopping very often though.... Honestly.....

    When I was living in the UK I was shocked at the prices for a bottle of single malt, and the price of pints in the local.

    In Spain they had places (bodegas) where you would bring in your own bottle and refill it, often less than a euro for 750 ml bottles. Good wine also :)

    Here in California, wine is not the most expensive thing on the grocery receipt, it's usually fish or chicken. But a Single Malt from Scotland would certainly be more expensive than anything else I'd buy...around 45 - 55 dollars for an average one.
