An artlcle from 2017. Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen sounded confident and cocky in his pre-testimony press release spin prior to his closed-door testimony before the House Intelligence Committee Why Is Congress Conducting Its Russia Investigation in Secret? By Ryan Lizza September 20, 2017 Why Is Congress Conducting Its Russia Investigation in Secret? excerpt: "Most of the witnesses being interviewed by the Senate and House committees investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 election have been granted a remarkable courtesy. The norm in Washington is for testimony to be conducted before cameras in a public setting, where congressmen and senators compete for attention and interrogate witnesses in the hopes of achieving a viral “gotcha” moment. But in recent weeks several figures central to the investigation, including Jared Kushner and Donald Trump, Jr., have been allowed to sit for interviews behind closed doors. The closed-door interview has become the unfortunate new norm, in which the public is denied insight into an important investigation. Roger Stone, Trump’s longtime on-again, off-again adviser, who is scheduled to testify before the House Intelligence Committee next week, requested a public hearing but was told it would be closed. The private conversations seem to be the product of a bipartisan agreement: Democrats get the witnesses they want, and Republicans are able to reduce the anti-Trump spectacle of the hearings. But what is lost is the transparency Americans have come to expect from congressional investigations going back decades—Watergate, Iran-Contra, the various Clinton scandals, the 9/11 Commission. The investigation by the special counsel, Robert Mueller, will remain behind closed doors and confidential until its conclusion, as is common of probes into potential criminal conduct. But the various congressional committees are looking at the broader implications of Russia’s attack on our democracy, an inquiry that cries out for open testimony as a way to inform the public. Unlike the aggressive congressional investigations of Watergate and Iran-Contra, today’s private interviews have afforded witnesses in the Russia investigation with a unique opportunity. Both Kushner and Trump, Jr., released long public statements that were not subject to tough cross-examination in public by members of the committee. The statements have become increasingly fatuous and more like press releases. Kushner’s statement was filled with pabulum about a life and career dedicated to quiet public service."
I see that a whole bunch of Russians got indicited by the US Justice Dept. Wondering if those Ruskies will ever see the inside of an American courtroom?
I don't know how anyone could look at this Putin/Trump summit and not come away thinking that Trump is being blackmailed. Does anyone actually doubt that Trump would betray his country and destroy its global standing in order to protect himself from whatever it is they have on him? He is literally the first president who does nothing BUT act in his own self-interest, without even pretending to give a shit about anything or anyone else. At a certain point the US is going to have to admit they were attacked, Trump is part of that attack, and it's time to revamp the entire system to prevent something like this from happening again.
House conservatives prep push to impeach Rosenstein by RACHAEL BADE and KYLE CHENEY 07/13/2018 04:00 PM EDT House conservatives prep push to impeach Rosenstein excerpt: "House conservatives are preparing a new push to oust Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, according to three conservative Capitol Hill sources — putting the finishing touches on an impeachment filing even as Rosenstein announced the indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers for interfering in the 2016 election. House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, in fact, had the impeachment document on the floor of the House at the very moment that Rosenstein spoke to reporters and TV cameras Friday. Conservative GOP lawmakers have been plotting to remove Rosenstein for weeks, accusing him of slow-walking their probe of FBI agents they’ve accused of bias against President Donald Trump. Democrats contend Republicans’ fixation on Rosenstein is really an effort to undermine special counsel Robert Mueller, who reports to Rosenstein and has been making inroads in his investigation of the Russian election interference plot. Mueller’s probe has entangled members of Trump’s inner circle and Trump has increasingly assailed it as a politically motivated “witch hunt” as it’s presented greater danger to him and his allies. Conservative sources say they could file the impeachment document as soon as Monday, as Meadows and Freedom Caucus founder Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) look to build Republican support in the House. One source cautioned, however, that the timing was still fluid."
A White Ohio woman was arrested on Friday for spray painting a racial slur, "Niggers Keep Out" "Hail Trump" and a swastika on the front of her black neighbor's home. Patricia Edelen was caught on another neighbor's surveillance cameras Friday night spray painting the offensive words on the Ogden Ave. home in Toledo. Score Card: Trump: 1 less vote since convicted felons are not allowed to vote Racial Justice: Victory Declared
Trump goes to Russia and then blamed America for poor relationship. This was Tweeted out just days after the U.S. indites 12 more Russians. He didn't bring up Russia's election crimes against any country, the twelve new indictments, nor the U.K. poisonings in their initial meeting. He is now in secret one on one talks with Putin. We will never know what's being said unless Putin releases a transcript.
as I've said before, on this forum, and others, trump does not like Obama because trump was the recipient of Obama's jokes at the correspondents dinner a few years ago. trump thinks he is god, and no one can make fun of god.
Crowds of protestors line streets in Finland protesting Trump and Putin....Good! I hope they both feel very unwelcommed there....I am seeing angry red today for both of them there...Finland has lived in Russia's shadow and has always managed to hold its own...Keep it up, Finland! Copy and paste now from article.... "Crowds on Sunday at a “Helsinki Calling” protest ahead of the summit meeting.CreditLeonhard Foeger/Reuters There is no giant balloon portraying Mr. Trump as a big angry baby in diapers in the Finnish capital, as there was in London last week and in Edinburgh on Saturday. In Helsinki, the final stop of Mr. Trump’s disruption tour of Europe, he has to share being the target of protesters’ ridicule and rage with Mr. Putin. Advertisement Shortly before Mr. Trump arrived in Finland on Sunday, thousands of protesters marched through the center of Helsinki in a display of equal-opportunity anger, directed at both leaders. (Historical pictures underscore how summit meetings in Helsinki have proved to be momentous occasions.) “Trump-Putin — the two-headed monster,” read a hand-painted sign carried by Paulina Pepaola, a Finnish woman who joined the march from a park near the central train station to Senate Square. “I am totally against both of them,” she said. “They are working together. Putin controls Trump.” Tapio Waren, a businessman in the construction industry, said, “each one has such terrible policies it is hard to say who is worse,” he said. More than 280 billboards around Helsinki assailed Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump as enemies of press freedom. “Dear Mr. President, welcome to the land of free press,” read one giant digital sign, toggling between English and Russian. A rally in Senate Square brought together rights activists, supporters of Ukraine, opponents of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, champions of L.G.B.T. rights, #MeToo campaigners and evangelical Christians. The only common thread was their shared dismay that Helsinki was hosting the first formal summit meeting between two such unpopular leaders. “Trump and Putin are not welcome in Helsinki. Go home,” read a banner unfurled outside the colonnaded entrance to Helsinki Cathedral, which dominates the square."
This is very strange. Impeachment requires charges of criminality. The House can bring impeachment charges but the trial is done in the Senate, by two-thirds vote, which would be an impossible hurdle for these Republicans to meet. Votes in both houses would be likely to be purely partisan. And has there ever been a case of impeachment of a subordinate executive branch official being impeached? Ordinarily, the President would just fire him. I guess they're just grandstanding for the base and trying to strengthen the optics for the ultimate firing of Rosenstein by Trump. Pure theater.
Putin just held a press conference with an bowl of orange jello, he swallowed it whole. It was pretty bad. A reporter was forcefully removed for holding a sign in his hand. Trump attacked Hillary Clinton and the FBI, he declined to say the Russians had anything to do with the election saying he believed Putin's denial, "I can't see any reason why they would do it." And he stood by as Putin volunteered to send his own agents to investigate our intelligent agents on our own soil. Let me just quote John Brennan, former head of the CIA: Oh and he said Witch Hunt again.
I've often heard people say the eyes are the window to the soul. Today I'm thinking it might be the mouth. I just heard Trump's mouth go from war and weapons of mass destruction to "No Collusion" in jus one second! That said a lot about the convolutions of his mental state!
