How Do You Use a Turnip?

What on earth do people usually do with turnips?

I know where I live (metro Detroit), they are available in just about every supermarket. But what do people usually do with it?

I also have to tell you all. About 20 or 30 years ago, I did buy one. I found it to be rather like a mild radish raw. Cooked it looses some of its sharpness. Actually I at least would prefer it raw. It would make a good dipping veggie. I'll even give you the recipe for my favorite dip. 1 part peanut butter, 1 part catsup, 1 part mayonnaise, garlic salt and curry powder. Trust me, it's delicious.

But otherwise how do people normally enjoy turnips?

Probably with dip. Or hummus.

cook like a potato and either mash or eat in slice.

 

It's a pretty horrible flavor on its own in my opinion. When I make mashed potatoes for pork or kielbasa, I use 3/5's potatoes, 1/5th carrots and 1/5th turnips. Oddly delicious then.

You can ferment it like Kimchi! The are some of my favorite fermented food!

i'm not sure that i've ever even seen a turnip in real life. they look pretty throwable though.
