a bunch...Including 2 high risk ones where they surround you with guns.... .February 2006ish my son and I were driving in pickering over a bridge that spanned the big highway when I see headlights and flashing lights coming right at me on my side of the road.... there is a median in the middle so I just stop when I see I have several popo behind me too ad on cue all of them hit those high powered spotlights from front and back.... ...my 10 year old is I the front set with me when they do that thing where you stick your arms out the window etc etc......when they saw I had a kid with me they relaxed a bit....I was driving a car that belonged to a Hells Angel who had ''approach with caution'' flags....they asked me if I was him lol...he is a giant man easily a foot taller and 200 pounds heavier....they let us go
another one i forgot about, apparently if a cop is blocking traffic going in the opposite direction from you, you still have to stop. i was really confused by the situation and slowed way down as i passed him, but he still chased me down and chewed me out for it.
Three times for speeding tickets. A couple on roads where the speed limit goes up and down often, and I thought I was in an 80 but was in a 60. The other time was in Quebec. I was driving the same speed as everyone else, but I guess he figured that since I was out of province, I wouldn't fight it. I can't really complain, since I was definitely speeding.
Twice, once for speeding and once for 'improper takeoff' or something. I floored it at a stop sign and squealed the tires.
Both riding choppers and driving hot rods attracts attention sometimes. I said "at least" meaning more than once some years.
I have driven a beat up car in the nice part of town in suburbia NJ. I got pulled over a shit load of times.
A few times. The last time the cop wrote a description on the ticket which read "strawberry blonde" and "not Mexican".
This reminds me....I was riding an old Yamaha chopper a few years back that wasn't in the best of shape, No side stand...I used the kick starter to hold it up when stopped, no inspection sticker, no front fender, a Florida plate hanging on the side by one bolt, no mirrors, no turn signals, and multiple colors of paint here and there and when I pulled into a dirt road leading to my father's driveway there was a state cop sitting in his car. I had to drive right by him, about two feet away, and he didn't even look at me. In the early seventies I would have been stopped immediately and cited for multiple infractions, including having him stick a broomstick up the pipes to check for baffles.....now, they don't seem to care.
There are no dui check points where I live. In fact, I had never heard of such a thing until I read this thread.
They are pretty much makeshift here, primarily for holiday weekends. The police will set up on roads which are basically one way and lead to the freeways.
around here they'll stick them on any heavily trafficked road, particularly one that leads to/from areas with multiple bars, logically enough. they'll do it any time, regardless of holiday status, although it is pretty much always on the weekend and holidays might be a bit more likely to get one. they are required to announce it beforehand, although i don't know exactly where you would go to get that information. i think i've been stopped in 3 of them. twice when i was in grad school; they had a checkpoint spot pretty much right outside my apartment so they stopped me on my way home from work two nights. and then once here, when i was coming back from our local summer resort area with a full kayak trailer after leading a class there.
That sounds annoying. I mean, I get it. Is there a system to who they stop? Like, every person, every 10th person, only people who are swerving?
as far as i know it's every person. they block off the road so that everyone has to pull through their little chokepoint and talk to the guy for a minute. then he just sends you along and brings up the next guy. i assume if they suspect you of something they pull you aside and let someone else deal with you (there's always a whole crew there).
Lost count. As a teen the small town pigs would harrass anyone driving after dark. And my favorite hobby was to drive fast and get stoned. I've been pulled over and searched and let go 6 or 7 times. Another 5 landed with possession of marijuana charges. In one year I was pulled over and ticketed at least 12 times and lost my liscence for 6 months. Then I moved to the city and stopped driving like an idiot. I haven't had an encounter with the police in 6 years.
Only pulled over once for speeding a long time ago. I knew I was speeing, I knew I got done so I pulled over and waited. He let me off heaps because of this. He knocked my speed down a lot and was basically like a wake up to yourself fine. Years later I got speeding ticket from a speed van. It's been about 10 years since I've gotten a ticket.
