this afternoon, randomly, my screen started turnig off and instantly back on again, in random intervals for several times, then restarting, randomly. this happened a few times, each time the frequency of flicks increased and there seemed to be less before restarting.

now, windows (legit XP home) wont even load! it does a few things:

    • freezes while the bar under the flag is running, and either keeps the bar going or stops it
    • restarts when the bar and flag is about to finnish
    • freezes during safe mode startup, leaving a screen of driver names
    • goes to blue STOP screen, with the following messages:
    once, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and i read the number on another one and it was

    0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x805F9ECF, 0xF9C48FB0, 0x00000000)

what can i do?? i cant even load safemode and i dont know what would have gone onto my computer because spyware is constantly adding itself to my comp, dispite zonealarm and norton

help?!? please! i feel so powerless, not being able to even get a command prompt going

Faulty RAM. If you have more than one stick of RAM, remove one and see if the system will boot. If that doesn't work, remove the other one and try again.

Can't rule out other faulty hardware or a virus though.

just btw: norton is anti-VIRUS, not anti-spyware.

ZA should help, but switch to firefox as your browser, and get ahold of Spybot S&D to get rid of your spyware problems.

if you can get to boot at some point.

Have you tried booting up in safe mode and performing a virus scan? I would suggest doing that before trying to mess around with your hardware.

the problem was some faulty drivers, i kept restarting teh computer and flicking the power and changing some BIOS negligables, and it eventually worked

i use spybot and adware as well as having norton and zonealarm.

What driver was it? Driver problems shouldn't stop you booting into safe mode, since safe mode only loads windows default drivers.
