Demonstration for the protection of the Boreal Forest Sunday 20 February 2005 Departure: In front of the Statue at Mont-Royal Park at 1 p.m. Great march! 90% of Quebec's boreal forest has been alloted to private companies while only 2.9% of this forest is pretected. In order to provide a vioce to these endanged forests, the march will proceed with a "tree-block" that will consist of recuperated x-mass trees that we have collected! Thus, it will be the forest itself that will be takingto the streets of Montréal in order to manifest their discontent. If the weather si good enough, the march will be going with music, cirkus, tamtams, from all of us, and some Ents (tree-men) from greenpeace. Uinited together we will end this ecocide and the attack on life itself. We demand: That the 8% of protected air be applied in full starting spring 2005: We want 8% of public land to be protected under the statute of ecological reserve: -including René-Levasseur Island -including Vérandrye park That the forest is managed collectively by local populations and not by in town far away. community control of ressources! that the transformation of wood product take place in the regions where the harvest of trees takes place and not in large urban financial centers. That our ecosystems andwork force are no longer submitted to the capitalistic economic rhythm that prioritizes profit and waste to the detriment of people and life itself. Manifestation pour la protection de la forêt boréale Organisateur: SOS Levasseur et La Terre d'Abord Lieu: Départ à la statue du parc du Mont-Royal Date: Dimanche le 20 février 2005, à Une grande marche pour la protection de la forêt boréale. 90 % de la forêt boréale du Québec a été allouée aux compagnies forestières, alors qu’il n’y a que 2,9% de cette superficie qui est protégée. Pour symboliser la forêt qui se soulève, la marche se fera avec des sapins de Noël que nous avons récupéré! C’est donc la forêt elle même qui descendra dans les rues de la ville pour s’exprimer. Venez en grand nombre! Ensemble pour la vie, que cesse l’écocide! Aux arbres citoyens! Nous demandons : Que le Québec respecte ses engagements face à la convention sur la biodiversité de Rio, lesquels engagements devaient être appliqués pour janvier 2005. Que le 8% d’aire protégé soit appliqué en totalité d’ici le printemps 2005 : Nous voulons 8% des terres publiques sous le statut de réserve écologique : -incluant le territoire intégral de l’île René-Levasseur -incluant le parc de la Vérandrye Que toutes les compagnies forestières du Québec appliquent au plus vite la certification FSC. Que la forêt soit gérée collectivement par les populations locales et non par des compagnies basées dans des villes lointaines. Que les activités de transformation du bois se fassent dans les régions où l’on peut faire les récoltes forestières et non proche des grands centres urbains financiers. Que l’on cesse de soumettre les écosystèmes et la main d’oeuvre au rythme économique capitaliste qui priorise le capital et encourage le gaspillage au détriment de la vie. Que l’on gère la forêt de façon biocentrique et non anthropocentrique. La manifestation sera suivie d’une réunion ouverte à tous où nous pourrons nous asseoir ensemble afin d’organiser une série d’événements dans le but de faire appliquer nos revendications.
