Trump and his advisors must have been thinking a war could elevate them in the polls but uncle Putin must have quashed their delusional wishful thinking?

That's why countries with a hapless human rights record like Saudi Arabia can with impunity dismember someone like Khashoggi who was a U.S. resident and Saudi citizen in a consulate which is a place of safety. They know that Congress lacks votes to veto Trump and that Trump claims as fake the U.S. intelligence linking Saudi officials to the murder. Instead of sanctioning them, Trump will give them what they want including a Congress-bypassed $8 billion of arms, in the name of protection from Iran in a Bolton-initiated drama, to perpetuate a war in Yemen that the international community has deemed a travesty.

This is the type of government and world that the adherents of Trump have made for themselves, all for the sake of wanting to hear him carnival bark endlessly about the groups and people that they don't like, such as Hillary who he is still carnival barking about in his 2020 reelection campaign as if he was running against her again.

'It’s not a citizen’: Trump telegraphs a soft line on Jamal Khashoggi — even as evidence becomes more damning
    By Aaron Blake
    October 12, 2018

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...-arabia/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.20bed8ed7dc6

    excerpt:

"Combined with Trump’s comments downplaying the prospect of sanctioning Saudi Arabia and limiting arms sales, it seems Trump is not inclined to take a hard line here -- even as the evidence becomes more damning. Below, we explore why that was predictable (and predicted).

For the second time in his presidency, President Trump is dealing with the apparent targeting of a dissident at the hands of a despotic regime with which Trump has sought to curry favor. And even more than Russia’s alleged poisoning of Sergei Skripal in Britain, Jamal Khashoggi’s disappearance poses some impossible choices that are ripe for error."

I still say it is organized crime. Republicans wrap themselves in the flag and the patriotism and hide behind the Christian Bible but are just cheap criminals.

    Trump's selective displays of empathy

Trump's selective displays of empathy (opinion) - CNN

    excerpts:

"The six migrant children who have died in US custody in the past 10 months. Trump has accepted no responsibility. In his first public comment after news of the first two deaths broke, Trump tweeted, "Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats.""

"The nearly 3,000 American citizens who died in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria."

"The four US soldiers who were killed in an Islamic State ambush in Niger in 2017. Trump waited 12 days before publicly acknowledging the deaths. When he finally called one soldier's widow, he said her husband "knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurts," according to a family member and a Democratic congresswoman, both of whom listened in on the call. Trump repeatedly attacked the congresswoman for days after."

"Senator John McCain, who died of brain cancer in 2018. "

"The fire that destroyed Paradise, California, and killed 85 people."

Add to the list the gentleman who died in the Trump Tower fire. Trump mentioned nothing of him and used the fire to claim the supposed safety of his building.

Man, I keep telling people even Hollywood writers cannot make this shit up. PT Barnum's Freak Show is the best you can hope for, and even the comedians are all complaining that they can't compete with reality TV. At least watching Three Stooges reruns I know they all survived, while the Twilight Zone has surreal comedy.

I find it troubling how there are still plenty of republicans who are criticizing Trump for not following through with the military retaliation on Iran. And here I thought neoconservativism of the Bush McCain era was almost dead.

No, Iran shooting down a flying robot doesn’t warrant a retaliation that could’ve killed 150 people. The drone shouldn’t have been flying in their airspace in the first place.

Trump is rattling his saber in every direction possible, threatening to impose import taxes on Mexico and attack Iran in order to distract public attention away from his being progressively attacked by his own government. Its the magician's tactic of blue smoke and mirrors, and he's getting particularly obnoxious with Iran because he knows they are as helpless as a baby. A bastard redheaded step-child everybody wants to abuse.

The Russians knew he was a complete waste of time the minute he failed to gain the backing of his own party leaders. Americans demanded the lowest of lowbrow slapstick, and anything lower than Donald Duck would be the next civil war. He's the only president who could easily make Fox News look legitimate. Attacking everyone all at once he's making a call to arms among his Neo-Nazi brethren and daring other conservatives to try and stop him. Thankfully, I think the Secret Service would sooner shoot him than make him a dictator for life.

The Roman emperors had their own private Germanic guards.
