    no, you're not listening.
we're not taking anything from anyone. we are giving what we all collectively own, to everyone.
and everybody has the opportunity to work or contribute to society in any number of ways, and most would.
they then get that pay ON TOP of their UBI.
we automate all the shit that depresses everyone. we improve mental health, increase joy in the world.
there isn't anyone sitting around doing nothing at the expense of everyone else else.
we all benefit. it doesn't bother me what someone else does.

and my point is, to an individual, they might feel that their life is absolutely best when they do nothing but play xbox all day.

why do we get to decide what "improve the quality of their life" means?

How are you taking money from a working man when a UBI would be funded specifically by a tax on corporations who automate their workforce?

Plus, here's another benefit to a UBI ....inpatient treatment facilities are very expensive, but sometimes addictions require extensive, inpatient treatment to overcome.
So there's another thing people could spend their money on in order to better themselves and society

this mentality of "i must have! they must not have. because if they have, i must not have" is primitive.
it's for animals who are keeping in balance with nature and so can't all survive, they can only exist as much as there is food.
we've decided to fuck that balance with nature thing and keep us all alive, and take control of food production, etc, in order to do this.
so we have to drop the primitive shit now, because it's getting in the way.

UBI seems inevitable at some point, I don't claim to know when that point is tho...

As an isolated example, using Netflix in comparison to Blockbuster, you're talking about ~75,000 less jobs. Other than that the medium has persisted or been re-invented, I'm not sure how you see this as supporting your position 6-eyed shaman.

UBI " Helicopter Money " will only happen when fiat currency begins it's inevitable collapse as it's now in process of doing.

Perhaps a last ditch effort to revive an imploding debt based monetary system. Keep in mind deflation is the " air coming out of the balloon " so to speak, hence Central Banks desperation to inflate getting harder by the day.

OK then why not invest that money into work-training and mental health programs in a post-automation society instead?
It'd be better spent than throwing that money around to everyone in hopes that the recipients will invest it to better themselves, when they could just blow it all on frivolous nonsense.

When everyone gets free money, you can guarantee the accelerated loss of the dollar's value.

When some jobs die, others are born. Video rental stores going obsolete to online streaming is just one of a thousand more examples. A decade ago, there was no such thing as a social media page manager. Now the job market is full of them.

Necessity is the mother of innovation

Frivolous nonsense is what it's all about. I'm advocating a world where we are free as individuals to do as we wish with our time.

Meanwhile, I'm advocating a world where our tax dollars are spent resourcefully. As in NOT rewarding destructive and parasitic behavior.

Does that include people who frequently draw unemployment insurance as they move from job to job?

and who decides what is "resourcefully"?

i'd say being free is the highest wish for almost all of us. free to totally waste our time, if we like.
if it's not at the expense of those doing constructive, useful things, i still can't see why it matters to you.

    LOL

So what you're saying is you didnt read his op ed at all, you just saw the name Bernie Sanders and your mind jumped to eViL sOcIaLiSm

His op ed was about protecting independent journalist outlets from being swallowed by media conglomeration, not about the state takeover of media. Not that I should have to explain this, all you had to do was read it before commenting.

Do you want your tax dollars wasted? Sounds like you trust someone else to spend your money better than you yourself.

It matters because you propose paying for people to waste their lives away, rather than use the same money invest in a better future.

You made it very clear that UBI is wisely spent on someone’s video game and porn addictions. You also don’t like the idea of using UBI money to invest in work retraining programs instead for whatever reason.

Yang is a propagandist who sows the seeds of entitlement everywhere he goes.
