How's everyone's barefooting going? It's been an absolutely gorgeous weekend so far here in England and I have just not been able to stop myself walking around outdoors barefoot. Today well this morning I've just been walking around the streets, parks and trails all nearby my home. Just fantastic I love the contrast from hot tarmac to the cool soothing dirt trails with various mud patches from recent rains. Yesterday was a shopping day like I said the contrast from the hot black car parks to the cool soothing dusty tiles of the shops is amazing and who cares if I'm barefoot in the stores I love it. I did see a few teen girls walking in the park barefoot yesterday which was a pleasant site as even in this glorious weather I'm usually the only one barefoot
Sure is! Went to a car show today...all in fields and very hot weather. And allelujah….one other person barefoot... hippy looking woman with anklets, toe rings and foot tattoos….one of "us" then. Not one other though, despite perfect barefoot conditions. The visitor parking was in a field of stubble a few inches high. I thought it was going to be a challenge, but no, great fun crushing it!
I was inspired by this thread to attempt some sunny weather barefooting myself. I went out for a stroll around the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the hot asphalt burned my feet and my sores are now infected. Do any barefooters know any reliable homeopathic solutions to gangrene? Thank you!
I'm in England too and still new to going around barefoot, I had a quick walk through part of the high street recently which was the first time doing it with a good number of people around. Didn't notice anyone looking but I do still carry my sandals as a backup. Still a few uncomfortable areas where I only just about manage to not hobble around but it's getting better. It's so nice isn't it... it's nice weather, lots of people are in sandals so why not go one step further? If the weather turns bad for long enough then sadly Thursday or Friday could well be the last opportunities of the year here (unless you're brave enough to go out in the cold and wet) so it might be a long wait for the next time :/
Stay barefoot as long as you possibly can stand it . That will toughen up your soles and you’ll find that you will be able to be barefoot more and more. Keep us posted.
Will try to - even with just a few short attempts it feels like they can stand up to more than at first. Kind of makes me feel tough in a funny way, being able to say I don't need any shoes. Must start earlier next year, I know it's probably fun in colder weather but I only just about have the confidence to do it when plenty of people are in shorts and sandals.
As I like to say, you have to build a skin as thick as the calloused soles of your feet. People look at you occasionally when you’re barefoot in public . Some with envy and others probably with disgust. Fuck em! Just do it!
Um, the correct term is “barefoot” (one word) when you are walking in bare feet (two words). One walks/goes barefoot (adj.) by using “bare feet” (adj. + plural noun). Your right to your own slang is indisputable. However...
Wow, some pavements are a lot more uncomfortable than others... still haven't had any comments yet. Wonder how long it's going to take to get one. Interesting combining it with getting over other anxieties, hopefully finding out that people care a lot less than you'd expect. Sure that bad weather/going into shops will probably increase the likelihood of collecting silly comments!
I spent last evening out running around barefoot. Went to a local street fair, a store and a couple of clubs. No mention from anyone about my barefeet but a couple of glances and smiles. I just said hello! Keep em bare dude! Keep em bare!
Great fun! I find it hard to get over because it feels REALLY obvious, like I'm walking around topless where nobody normally would. Nice weather helps it stand out a little less. But from dealing with other problems I know you just need to to try it and observe how little people react. I know I shouldn't care but it's easier said than done! Plus the not being able to cope with all surfaces thing. It will be nice when I get to the point where most surfaces don't worry me. Do you still do it through the winter? If not, how long does it take to be reasonably comfortable again when the good weather comes back, or does the toughness not disappear too much?
The first few times being out barefoot is very hard on the mind as you constantly think people are looking but really they aren't and the more you go out barefoot the easier it becomes. Winter barefooting can be tough but I recommend shorter easy trips as you condition your soles to the cold and soon you begin to enjoy being barefoot in snow just as much as a glorious summer day. First though we have autumn and that is a real treat for bare feet I love feeling the golden leaves on the woodland ground crunching as I go.
