HI I just made my first cord skirt... I dont have a serger yet... and my ends are fraying like mad.,... has anyone used that liquid stuff that is supposed to make stuff stop fraying? Does it work? Thanks. (I hope that made sence im in a serious need for some sleep.)
Yeah i agree with sugar mag, double roll the seams, but since you have already completeled this skirt, I doubt you're wanting to take it apart and try again, so I would suggest using that no fray glue you are talking about. It works pretty well on other fabrics, though I have never used it on cord. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
For fabric that seems to fray easily, I usually sew a zigzag stitch all along the edge. Then, I turn that under and hem it. Sometimes, I just go over the edge a couple of times with a zigzag stitch and leave it unhemmed. It looks kind of rough and funky. Not really appropriate for all things, but I use that on a lot of skirts and sometimes on the lower edge of shirts. If I am really having trouble getting a hem to look right, I just cover it up with some sort of trim or fringe. I do not claim to be a great seamstress, but at least I am creative!
I agree... Thats what i would do... And carefully trim next to it so it only frays alittle before it stops at that seam. .. I have the fray stop glue stuff.. I really dont care for it...
Ok so I fixed my skirt... I used some extra cordoroy for the hem... and then I roled over my seams on the inside and hand tacked them down... I should have thought of that to begin with .... Oh well... I looks cute... Thanks for everyones advice. I appreciate it If I get a camera any time soon I will post a picture of it!
