Hehhe.. yeah.. I think I do!

Found a stray cat last weekend and reported it to all missing pet organisations in the country (about 5), talked to people in the neighbourhood, checked for 'where is my cat' notes and took it to the neighbourhood vet but still no owner so.... I'm really hoping I get to keep it! Well.. that me and my boyfriend get to keep it.

Or better... her :) She's (according to the vet) a ± 5 month old pussy, plain european shorthair crossbread.. and totally adorable. We are looking for a place to live together and plannend on having a cat then, so she's not unwanted, just a bit early :) She settled in perfectly and is the sweetest thing. Housetrained as soon as we bought a litter box and everthing.

Plus if an owner shows up he/she'll have to pay back the vet bills 'cause the poor thing was infested with fleas and probably had worms as well.

But it's kinda weird to get so attached while she can get taken away any moment.. because we didn't want to get so used to her we didn't name her right away.. and now she listens to the name 'Poes' (Dutch for pussy).. hehe.. so I guess that's her name.

She's at my boyfriends place now and I myself own a rabbit (twice as big as the cat) so that's gonna be fun introducing those two. Rabbits and cats usually go together great, the only problem can be the rabbit being way dominant over the cat. But Guust (my rabbit) is used to cats (I have the occasional neighbourhood cat walking in and out) so I think that's gonna be ok. Should be soooo cute seeing them play together!

Anyways.. long post.. bottomline: I'm way excited but also a bit scared that she gets taken away.. kinda double feeling..

I think that's wonderful. She will be well taken care of. If an owner does turn up then you will know that someone loves that cat enough to look for her. In that case there are plenty other loving cats without a home. But if not, then *yay* for you!

Yeah.. we were planning on getting a kitten from a shelter anyway (I worked at one for a short period during a summerbreak back in highschool), the only difference is that when we buy one from a shelter we would know it is legally ours..

If the owner shows up and is really concerned and loving I'll be sad to give it back but happy that they got back together.. but if it's a meany I don't know what I'll do ;)

How kind of you to take in this lost little creature!! I hope you get to keep her, too. I definately agree that I probably wouldn't give the cat back if the owner seemed abusive. But like Elle said, I doubt an abusive owner would come searching for a non-purebred cat.

Cats are the best. Poes is going to be a great friend for you!

(hey, are you stalking me as well? ;))

Yup, still have her.. and she's costing me sleep! We (she, the rabbit and I) live in one room and since they are semi-nocturnal and I'm not it's sometimes a bit difficult to get a full night of undisturbed sleep :)

I'll post a pic here. I should've some new pics of her at the end of the week.

The pic was taken the first day we had here.. she was sleeping in a box in my bf's kitchen (she's at my place now.. sleeping in my bed .. hehe)

One of my dogs was a rescue from an abusive previous owner... same scenario only the owner DID show up and was talking about "sending her to a farm to live"... I could already tell the dog had been abused but that verified it, so I asked if I could have her, and she said yes!

So, if you find the owner isn't all that crazy about the cat (if an owner shows up) or seems abusive, you can always ask if you can have the cat. Maybe they will say yes. But if they say no, you're outta luck, cuz you've admitted that you still have her... What do I mean by that? I mean if you are that worried, you can hide the cat in a back room when the owner comes to pick it up and if they seem like total scum "oops, she just slipped out the back door! sorry" LOL But sometimes you can't really tell until you see the interaction between them. So it's a sticky situation.

But in either case, whatever happens, make sure that the person that claims her can prove that she was their pet, like a photo of her or something.
