If there were to be another woodstock, would you go? what would you expect of it being todays time? would it be the same?
I would so go. I can't even imagine what it would be like but I know I would love it. I just know it would be great. I wish I had the chance to have been at the old Woodstock!!!! Love & Awesome idea EnonEmouse
We could use another Woodstock right about now. People thinking about love and peace is just what this country needs. Probably half of us would be arrested as terrorists if Woodstock happened again.
Hell they way things are at the minute I doubt it could even happen there would be too many uptight assholes figurin we where all gathering to plot the downfall of the world or something stupid like that. Love & No Hope EnonEmouse
As Lights said, it's been done - twice. Both didn't come within lightyears of being what happened in '69. Remember in '69 Wavy Gravy saying that "some hamburger guy's stand burned down last night. So for those of you who think that capitalism isn't that weird, you might go help him out and buy a couple of hamburgers." Now flash to Woodstock '98(? - the last one). There are credit card booths set up - they only sell credit cards; that's it - no felafel, no tuna samiches, no tee-shirts, no beads, no crystals; just credit cards. I just don't think it's gonna happen again. That was a moment, a wonderful moment, in time.
It could happen. If corporations tthink it could be profitable again, another crap one can go down. A good one could go down if someone did what I described to the creator of the start a revolution thread in memeber anouncments, we could make a good one happen again.
Lites has hit on an idea. If the concert was set up to be 'word of mouth' and not media covered or exploited, it could happen. When I lived in The Haight, at Good Earth Commune, we organized several concerts in The Panhandle Park and just handed out fliers and put up posters at the local hangouts. The internet is an excelent way to reach the people also as a network of people who know people who know people, and so forth. While I was in Albq NM, I worked for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation a couple of yrs. and I organized benefits to raise funds for research. I contacted promoters and requested a benefit preformance from their clients. I got the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to do a concert for free. I'm sure there are some bands that would be willing to contribute and few hrs for a worthy cause. As for food/trinkets, whatever is sold the profits go to ** whatever was decided beforehand ( maybe a small % to cover cost ). I mean you can make your money back but the majority of the profit will go to a mutualy agreed place. For the good of the ALL. I would also request MORE Bathroom facilities more food/drink services, more Shade, more medical and so forth. If the concert is to last more than one day there should be port-a-showers.. We would need people to construct these temp buildings/tents and we would need mateirals donated. There has to be designated leaders and treasury dept., We would also have to create a format for the bands and entertainment to follow and intermissions to regroup, ect. There are many details and followups that must be addressed, like getting comformation on appearance dates and times. We would need a hotline service to answer questions and set up preformers time slots and the likes. We would have to be on a volentier basis of our time spent. That's all I can think of at this time, but if someone were to pick my rusty brain I could probaly come up with some more ideas. Peace
i would be there, no matter what the cost. i would be prepared to put myself in a position where cops would raid. we need peace. one of my ambitions is to run a festival. a HUGE festival to almost re-enact the summer of love. peaceful, loving music and generate a peaceful, loving atmosphere, to try and reinspire a peaceful, loving world. there would at least be some people converted...
If there was another Woodstock I can honestly say I would not go. It wouldnt be like in '69, and I would much rather go to ozzfest. I have drifted away from a lot fo the hippe music.
it is my ambition to set one up. a huge one to inspire love and peace into the atmosphere, the souls of the people and as much of the world as i could. and i have a good idea on how to make it succeed... care to hear?
My name is Lights (as in lighters) and you've misinturpreted my idea, but that's ok. My idea is a free concert in a park that, while big, is little more than all of us playing.
Sorry LIGHTS my bad. I assumed you were speaking on a larger level, as the question was about Woodstock and about re-creating it(?) or what was needed to make it more comfortable. Maybe I misread the question. Maybe I got trapped in a time warp. At any rate, it's a nice idea and you should flow with it. Park concerts are a bit easier to organize. A permit will be needed first off. And you can hand out fliers to pass around to the different schools and put up posters. You can call the local radio station and get a plug in too. Ask the local clubs about bands that have played and call to ask for them to play at your concert. There must be a lot of local band that would love the exposure. It would be nice to have drinks and snacks and some vendors set up to sell t-shirts and what-nots. I do wish you success in getting it done.
I would go if it wasn't just about the profits, man. I came back on here to talk to Mary, and this thread caught my interest.
I was thinking big. We get a bunch of musicians ( 'us' because they become our peers) playing in a park, free, for everyone who wants to come. We won't need to get permits, we'll just comendere a park. No need for port o' johns, just crap in the woods. 3 days of peace love & music. Sure, we'll all probably get tear gas shot in our eyes and arrested, but in 30 years we'll be able to tell people we were there. Will we be smoking pot? Will we be high as kites on lsd? You bet your ass we will! Will we be breaking Selective Service, public decency, and drug laws? It wouldn't be much of a concert if we didn't. We will show the world our message, that nonviolent peace and love can solve the world's problems. Peace and love, my brothers and sisters, I wish you the best.
Part of the Woodstock thing seems to be the spontenaeity (excuse my spelling) of it all. The word of mouth idea sounds good. I am so jealous of people who lived in a time where mass gatherings didnt evolve into mobs and riots with police interference. Maybe, in 1998, the worl wasnt ready for it. But maybe, they are ready fo it now.
i'm there. lemme play too! i'll just need the bottom of my pocket to get there, but if its gonna happen, i'm so playing there
