for goodness sakes. the woman is about addressing the world in a way they can understand the crisis that is coming down around our ears. it's difficult, for me anyway, to understand how anyone could be ambiguous about something that is almost certainly the most seriously universal aspect of our existence: the world. It's ours, and if we don't care about it we should. I think that's her message.

And if these students walk about every Friday like the caption I included implies, I think that speeds up the process of our society caring for the world. Right?

    Kudos kinsman!

I know it doesn't mean much, nor do I expect you to understand why that part even matters, but you just did something BIG in the grand scheme of Irminmythology. :p I have no doubt that the future of our story will be one of light. :)

You demonstrated what I'd been whining about the past year. You demonstrated that you could Form your own opinion, accept others don't like it, accept other have their own opinions, not judge them for their opinions, you just don't understand how they can't see things the way you do and this shows individual characterisation but what you didn't do, is thrown anyone under the bus for thinking differently.

Like I've been saying. We are all very different from one another in big ways and small ways and in lots of ways, not just us but everybody on earth and its an unrealistic expectation that all of us here on earth Form some kind of common ground, it can't happen, it's impossible, we don't work this way.

But you've come along and said yeah well I don't understand what these guys are thinking, but this is my way of thinking. It's like a ray of sunshine believe me. :)

You will be my first prophet in the Book of the Irminsul. :)

Get a new sense of humour, or if you think you're making a meaningful argument a new brain.

This the most tired of arguments. You are just as guilty as anyone else

You probably mean we all have responsibilities in this regard, and are part of the problem (which makes your stance on not bother making individual efforts curious to put it mildly). There are obvious gradations in guilt here, and a greedy and aware head of a polluting industrial company has obviously more 'guilt' than the average clueless citizen (the latter is of course not totally innocent either). It's indeed going to be a combined effort of industry, governments AND consumers :)

Thats just something you keep propagating to avoid talk about individual responsibilties

No, being "clueless", not educating ones self is a cop out

Per ounze of pollutants per consumer, each individual consumer has more responsibilty than the single head of a company that produces

5 billion fossil fuel users sitting around blaming the heads of a thousand companies that produce the fuel they consume is idiotic and again is a cop out

Wtf? How am I avoiding talk about individual responsibilities when I bring that up? Making individual efforts is the exact same subject.... And what do you mean propagating? You did argue that. Maybe you forgot because you were just having fun trolling 'do gooders' and it isn't your sincere opinion? I hope that's it btw :p

Not necessarily. Whatever the ultimate solutions to our environmental problems end up being, someone will have to develop the technology, market it and sell it to people...probably governments. Socialists haven't had any luck combating environmental problems either I should add. If you don't believe me then take a drink out of the river Volga, or try breathing Beijing air without a mask.

There are varying degrees of capitalism.
The version of capitalism we have now where the purpose of life for most people is basically just to shop and consume disposable crap and replace their crap with more crap every couple of years, and where industries put a lot of money into ensuring we all want more crap and ensuring it will only last a couple of years so we'll have to buy more crap, and natural areas are paved over with factories and shopping malls so said crap can be produced and then sold, is really unsustainable.

We dont need to get rid of capitalism but disoosable consumerism needs to go.
I dunno if it ever will though, people are really addicted to buying cheap disposable items and will likely keep doing it until the oceans are completely full of...crap

    Crapcrapcrap

Plus the world's economy is basically built on disposable consumerism now. So I dunno. There are a lot of people invested in that not changing

Capitalism is a joke when 1% own 99% of everything, including all the courts and weapons. Across the US the realization that we've not had a capitalist economy for a long time now is slowly sinking in. Pointing guns at someone's face and telling them how much to charge is not capitalism. Paying some ignorant fool ten thousand dollars for the Hope diamond or buying Manhattan island for a few beads and blankets knowing perfectly well the natives thought they were merely leasing the land, is not capitalism. Outright stealing 1/3 of the continental US in the name of manifest destiny is not capitalism, which is precisely why Donald Duck is attempting to declare himself emperor of the world, in the name of free markets.

Our votes and constitution have been shredded, while almost no bakers went to jail for collapsing the entire world economy practicing widespread fraud. Capitalism without the rule of law is called the Mafia.

Your argument is somewhat true...but you failed to mention value. If all people value are cheap, disposable shit then yeah, that's what will be produced. If, on the other hand, a significant number of people value clean air and water over their need for instant gratification then I have no doubt we will get clean air and water. And I must admit (surprise, surprise) that I am not optimistic, at least based on what I see daily. I see people (younger people, of course) playing on their phones, taking pictures of themselves and putting dog ears and noses on said pictures and being inexplicably amused. And going into debt to buy $40,000 pickup trucks. Eating fast food nearly every day. And their knowledge of politics, and government in general is...I'll be generous here..."lacking." They all seem to be unaware that we as a species are facing some problems. And to the extent they do acknowledge a problem it's always the government that should do something about it, never themselves.

Something I see regularly in the shop I work in is families coming in, and as soon as the kids are through the door they're going "can we get something here? Can I buy a toy?" before they've even SEEN anything. They have it all backwards. I also see parents trying to leave because kid has spent 15 minutes looking at stuff, and the kid desparately trying to find something, anything, they want because they don't want to leave without the dopamine hit of buying a new item. I truly believe that is what they want, not the item. I find it a bit scary. We're making addicts of them and a lot of people don't seem to realise it.
