OK, we have made several lists before and can do so again. Cost is a big deal because some of the older Hippies have limited income and I don't want to exclude people who can not afford a Cattle Baron estate. I know some real good people who are living on Social Security in Colorado and would love to join if it is affordable. In Colorado and Wyoming, the place will be upwards of $400,000.00. In the western states, you've got to deal with water rights. In some states, taxes are high. In the mid-west things are cheap. I sort of like parts of Indiana and Ohio, because the building code is relaxed to accommodate the Amish population. Just a few pages back I posted info on a place up by Rome City, Indiana. It was big and on a nice size chunk of land. It did need some work, but under a hundred grand. If you want to look at 7644 St. Joe Road in Fort Wayne, you'll see a place that's sort of small, but has a basement and it's on 1.95 acre for a little over a hundred. It's on a well but has a water softener system and a reverse osmosis contraption that comes along. I'm thinking for a group of older hip folks, we don't need a big place, just enough for a garden and a shop to fix cars & trucks to save money. With today's cable/dish systems, you can plug in several lap tops, and get lots of movies. I like the idea of being close enough to medical services and some good organic food coop/store. Also, we don't need fifty people to do this. We can start with like six or seven then vote on the other who want to join later. As stated before in this thread, we can meet and agree on the fundamental facets then hire a lawyer to draw up the agreement right off our desired bylaws.

Crematorium, Jack? What's that about, a recognition that we're too old to dig graves for the ones who die off first?

That Fort Wayne place is no good. It's too open for us to run around naked without hassles from the neighbors.

My ashes should be rich with nutrients for the garden :)

That's excessively repulsive. I don't want human ashes in my vegetable garden.

OK people. I found 17803 County Road 8 in Montpelier Ohio zip code 43543 and it has almost a full acre of land. It's only 1200 sq ft but looks like we'd be able to add on to it with Florida rood style rooms. The price is very low. Let me know what you think.

Already has a pending offer and you didn't notice the neighboring McMansions... They wouldn't want you there.

OK, I'll check if they want me there first; but, 407 S Defiance St in Archbold, OH 43502 looks nice and is reasonable on the price. It is only a quarter acre lot but would have city water and would have enough space for a little garden?

My source says it is an ACTIVE PROPERTY. That's unless someone had made an offer today. Also, I didn't see any McMansions. The backyard looks awesome. That part of Ohio has meth-heads, Oxycontin dependents, and KKK members; but, with good dependable roomies, one could face the rural Ohio!

My recently acquired $5000 house has 4 bedrooms . It's double lot in town has room for a teepee . As well , a cave apt could easily be built
where the property slopes to the river . This week-end I'm completing some repairs . I am a non-profit person . No one is uninvited to be there .
The spirit of this place has no owner . I have found the words " I love you " to have been scribbled on mirrors and walls and lampshades .

There are similarly inexpensive houses in this town . Hippies could take over .

OK Tikoo, thank you for the info again. Hippies is the key word. I want to live with genuine Hippies. I do not want to live with a bunch of AR-15 gunslingers who happen to be alcoholics and meth heads. Guns and Booze just don't mix. I want a peaceful life.

I happen to know some AR-15 gunshooters . I do not imagine any would want to live with me . Well , maybe if they
go crazy and are desperate ... but what sort of desperation could that be ? I have peacefulness yet neither own or
command it as if it were a thing . Itsa wild world .

OK people, here we go again. I started this thread to suggest establishing a place to live for older Hippies. I used "over 50" as an arbitrary guideline. The purpose was for us older Hip folks to live together, share costs, and keep expenses low, Most of us are likely to be living in Social Security income to being-with. I have nothing against kids; but, the central idea here is a place for OLDER Hippies.

I would like to hear from older retired folks who wish to put this together. If you are rich and have a palace on 9 acres on top of a mountain, please don't disrupt our efforts here. Again, if you are an evangelical Republican who is looking for an end of times para-military compound please stay away or start your own gunslinger thread. If you use meth or oxycontin please start your own commune. People from Bosnia or Albania or Turkey or Iran are encouraged to join.

    Happy Day to everyone.

Well, I dunno--if someone owned a palace on a mountain, and offered it to you for free as the old hippies' home, wouldn't that disrupt the effort by bringing it to a sudden halt?

    Reminds me of a song--

That bright land where we'll never grow old. Hmmm.

On mature consideration (mature, ha) maybe a really luxurious place to live would make the process of getting a group together more difficult and not less. At least if fellowship is the main benefit being offered, you'll get people who want to be with other people. Offer something valuable in cash terms, and you might find people motivated by greed and laziness.

Amon, I know what you are saying about a fancy place in contrast with a down to earth place. I'm for getting a place that would fell like home for OLDER Hippies. I've said this a million times. There are many older Hip folks who are living alone in government housing and on Social Security. That life is dreary at best. They can afford to do anything or go anywhere. Also, there are older Hippies who are homeless on the streets. In places like California and Colorado you can't get an apartment on just Social Security. So, that's why I'm talking about this commune. It's not for a Branch Davidian gun slinger type, or for a party type. It is for older Hippies who would prefer to be with and share with others like them. And again, I have no intention of being the dictator. So, the ones who want to join me would get to vote Democrat style. We can decide together how we want to live together. Peace Love and Understanding!
