I love natural fabric. A few years ago, the farmers were growing colored cotton, and I rarely hear about it now. I have a pair of pricey cargo denims made from Tencel (wood fiber man made) and I love the softness of it. I hope the price comes down soon. Linen is classy, Raime is ok...Flannel rules in the cold....silk I like, but feel guilty wearing due to the way the worms are processed.....angora is great, because it is nothing more than fur combed during the natural shedding process....of the rabbit. Velvet is great. It used to be easy to find fabric shops that carried everything from burlap to chiffon. My mother and grandmother made clothes on a treadle sewing machine. I have searched for old fabrics like seersucker, and dotted swiss, but it just isn't around. I buy all of the rayon I can find, because it seems to last forever. Polyester tends to get little balls all over it..and I cringe when I feel the polyester knits. (eewies) As for carpets, I avoid rubber-backed, because the rubber often deteriorates into a creepy kind of powder...as it breaks down. Some of the synthetic fibres are tiny, and can settle in the lungs, and ear canals...and eyes. Who needs that ? And who can forget the rubbery Banlon ? Didn't last long. And don't leave out those sleazey nylon knit disco shirts...they didn't breathe ! They still don't.
