"The president can bomb anybody he likes" "I was not lying. I said things that later on seemed to be untrue." Richard Nixon reminds me so much of a British man. He had a great sense of humor and i fail to see how anyone couldn't like him. His policies alone should be his testament not Watergate
Unfortunately, his policies were almost as bad as his corruption. He was just a secular and intelligent version of George W. Bush.
Unlikely. During the weekend, John Dean suggested "Deep Throat" is terminally ill. Once he dies, his identity will be released by (forgot his first name) Woodward and Ben Bradly. Former Pres. Bush I was accompanied by Former Pres. Clinton at yesterday's Superbowl.

Those darn freedom of information acts create these kind of things imho .. not that we don't have the right to see such documentation..just conspiracy nuts love it..
I never thought much of him. Beyond getting us out of Vietnam, there isn't much that can be said of his administration. Detente was a failure. His attorney General, John Mitchell is the only Attorney General to spend time in Jail. Vice Pres. Spiro Agnew was force to resign, putting Gerald Ford into place, for accepting bribes. Can't remember if he spent time in Jail. Speaking of Pres. Ford, he is about 90+ years old and supposidly in ill health. Wonder if he is "Deep Throat"? The problem with this idea is Pres. Ford was a Congressman at the time. I don't think he had alot of connections with the White House during Watergate.
Umm Ever heard of the EPA or Clean Air Act mui? those happen to be Nixon policies. What about affrimative action in the workplace? He wasn't very religious either, He was justa very paranoid man with a deep fear of the Kennedys.
Hoover was a a Nixon crony, and whoever sent the link to the HW thing thanks that article was really good.
Richard Milhouse Nixon was a deeply intelligent man who really knew how to run a country. The only thing I hate about him is his "Southern Strategy"
J. Edgar Hoover was the first Director of the FBI. In 1924 he was named the head of of the Bureau of Investagation of the Justice Dept. In 1935 it was renamed the Federal Bureau of Investagation. Richard Nixon didn't go to Washington as a Congressman until 1946. By this time Hoover was a Nationally know figure and had been on the job for 22 years. It was his volumes of personal files that made him somewhat a feared person even for Presidents. They couldn't risk what was possibly in the files should they try to remove J. Edgar. Its very unlikely J. Edgar Hoover was anyones crony.
Perhaps Crony was a bad term, but Ally is a better one. Nixon was neevr afraid to ask for files from Hoover. Nixon's southern strategy was a great strategy for him, He knew he wouldn't get black votes but he could get southern white votes.
It makes sence to make nice to J. Edgar in order to access all those files. That "tradition" survived during the 1st Clinton administration. Remember Craig Livingstone having posession of about 1,000 FBI files consisting mainly of Republicans or Large Republican donors? A satisfactory explanation of his having posession of these files was never given. In fact no one at the White House would admit of hiring him. In the "old days", such a thing would never have seen the light of a Nightly Network News broadcast.
As long as J. Edgar Hoover was mentioned, I found this Picture on a German Newspaper, Online Edition. My first time uploading a pic, hopefully this will work.
I suggest some people run a search on J. Edgar Hoover's COINTELPRO program that functioned to suppress all political dissent in the U.S. during the 1960s and 70s From the Civil Rights struggle and the Women's movement, to the American Indian movement. A little research goes a long way. Let me help get ya started: www.google.com A good movie that depicts some of the nefarious actions of Hoover and his illegal program is called "Steal This Movie", about the life of Abbie Hoffman.
Let's face it, the whole system was/is corrupt. You guys vote for some poor excuse for a leader, while the real bastards are pulling all the strings - ensuring a rich and powerful lifestyle to which they think they are entitled. Clinton was ok, but they got to him in the end and even he was corrupted. Pity, because could have made the world a better palce.
Even with Vietnam, he didn't pull us out until he got thousands more soldiers killed. I don't deny that it was LBJ's mess...but Nixon aggravated the problem rather than solving it. He should've started pulling soldiers out immediately after he took office, instead of his ridiculous "peace with honor" plan. You're correct, Ford wouldn't have had any inside information. I think Pat Buchanan is one of the leading suspects for Deep Throat. Although personally I've always liked the idea that Deep Throat was merely a conglomeration of several anonymous sources. Maybe we'll find out some day. It's very unusual for a political secret to be kept this long...
