I have bought some very cheap canvas' and I need some inspiration as to what to paint on them. I am a total beginner in this and need all the help I can get!

The canvas' are small, about 50cm*50cm sq. So I was thinking I could do a painting over the two to make one piece of work maybe???

I cannot paint or draw to save my life so any basic tips or ideas would be much appreciated!!

First you should take a pencil and sketch out roughly

what it is you want to do. If you are begining the
best way I learnt was through still life. Find something
and try to draw it, the more closer you get the
better you start to become........or thats what
    happened to me.

Draw or paint what you want, or what youre good at.

or you can do what i do, choose yourself some colours... putthem onto your hands and splodge the paint round the canvas, create a beautiful field of colours blending into each other... parhaps add some sequins or something... then choose something... like..i dunno.. a flower... or a face and paint it somewhere on the canvas that looks right with the colours/patterns that your natural flow has created :)

Hey guys thanks for your replys!:) I have done one like you suggested crysalstarr, just to see what happens, and it turned out really cute!
I did it for my valentine. He loves earthy colours so I painted a canvas earthy brown and then with another tan type colour I flung/flicked the paint onto the canvas towards the middle. To my delight this turned into an awesome star pattern and I had a beaded leather flower which I then superglued to the center. It turned out kinda cool!!
I agree Arlia that music helps. When I did the painting above I was listening to George and I kind of got swept up in it at the time and ended up with the gorgeous star shape. Cool! I'm getting into this whole art thing!! Yay!
Yeah so I'm still wondering what to do with the other canvas'. But you guys have some awesome ideas here, so thanks!
I would'nt mind trying painting using some natural things like leaves and such.
We have some vietnamese mint growing and I think that would turn out really nice..? I can't see myself keeping it neat and not getting it all over the place though..? Has anyone got any tips for this kind of artwork?
    Thanks again!

    With Love,;)

My favorite thing to do is just paint the colors I feel.
If you sence a color, paint it.
    It'll all come together.

I saw some really cool "pictures" on 2 canvas' someone had painted zebra print on them. You could do it with whatever print you wanted, eg, leopard, etc draw the pattern out in faint pencil and then mix your coulours and go for it.
