The dictionary definition goes something like this.
Radical: someone who looks to the core or root of a problem and acts accordingly to change, alter, fix, or replace it by whatever means he/she deems appropriate.

So based on that definition alone, violence or having violent tendencies is NOT an intrinsic part of what it means to be a "radical". There *can* be radicals who use violent methods...but an activist who uses non-violent, but revolutionary means to create change is equally qualified for the term "radical"...if labels even have to be used, of course.
Me for example, I want radical change, but I'm not willing to hurt anyone to do it. I'm not a pacifist either. If someone...ANYone hit me in the face, I'd knock them one right back. lol. Well, except for the state-defenders obviously (the pigs), I wouldn't want to spend any lengthy time in prison for involuntarily punching a police officer in the face after enduring his punch to my face.

Anywho, I don't know where the radical movements are at these days per se, but I DO know that they are still up and running. They are worldwide (as demonstrated by the many indymedia sites around the world --www.indymedia.org for those who still are unfamiliar with it) and the mainstream media does not mention anything about this vast movement except for tiny snipits during public protests. But the movement is huge...and global. It's without a doubt the largest since the 1960s. Probably bigger...although not as loud...yet. :D

Well it has nothing to do with enviromental....since 2001 the goverment has been cracking down on stunts...like one man purposely brought a weapon aboard a flight to see how far he could get with it.

or the man who in 2002 wanted to test security of Nuclae power plants by breaking in......they all had the best of intentions

"There's a time when the system becomes so odious, that you can't take part, not even passively...and you've got to put your bodies on the gears and aparatus to make the machine stop. And you gotta tell the people who run and own the system that unless we're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all." -paraphrasing radical 60s activist Mario Savio

Even ex greenpeace members recognise the flaws within greenpeace and the lack of judgement in some of the actions they do. Granted i said 'ex' but even so :p

yeah right Greenpeace is flawed and gw bush isn't.
I see where you're coming from.

AT LEAST THEY ARE BRAVE ENOUGH TO SPEAK UP AND DO SOMETHING AGAINST MADNESS AND CORRUPTION!!!!!!!!!
Without hurting anyone I might add.

Give me an active world saver any day and NOT the kind that leaves behind 4.5 billion years worth of active radiation in Iraq with a big smile on his evil face.

Did i mention GWB ? did i mention that he was not flawed ? 'Brave enough' , yeah your right... the thing is that your making them out too be saints and every action they do is fantastic , this is not true.. Stuborn reactionary and unwilling to see other proups/goverments point or the when non proliferation is working under their noses .. a un willingness to accept they had no part in it is a BIG flaw.

"It doesn't matter if their message is right/true or not. It is still illegal."

Yeah, but there are a bunch of things that are illegal that are stupid. Have you ever read "The Wave"? Well, the lesson is, if you don't question authority and blindly trust someone's leadership, then history will repeat itself. Especially with the greed of humans in play.

Did I say I blindly accept authority?

It's nice what Greenpeace fights for, but some of the stuff they do is just really stupid. I honestly don't think a banner is going to make anyone think about the problem... because the attention goes straight to the arrests, and not what they are trying to get across. But I'm done arguing this issue because no one sees where I'm coming from except NatureFreak.
