It works both ways for the man and woman if both want to ditch the condom. If she says she's on birth control and tells him its his choice if he wants to take the condom off, then that's his choice - including the risk of getting her pregnant. Its not like its a one night stand or they've only met once or twice before. They've been at it for a few months so they've probably talked about these things anyway.
