I haven't read it! but it sounds interesting. I Googled "Uncle Tom Synopsis" and it (finally) told me Harriet Beecher Stowe and anti-slavery and all that good stuff. So now I'm curious!

 

The problem has come about because the first part of the book details how Uncle Tom survives in daily like by placating the masters and being 100% agreeable (lest he be whipped like a mule). And the detail is very raw. So a LOT of people refused to read further. They never came to understand that Uncle Tom was very intelligent, cunning and ultimately a hero they should be proud of. And I've known this since around 8th grade.

It's bizarre that such a profound error can STILL be festering in the information age. Imagine knowing that every person I've heard use the name in this way since the 70s, is an idiot who was too lazy or timid to finish the book. I had to write a report on it.

It's pretty thin when you consider all the democrats who fawned over Byrd's legacy. This is the sort of thing I find disappointing about the democrats and the left. I've said before, most of the oppression I have received in life has been from white people. As I would expect. You're trying to force a narrative on me that's just not true. Understand that listening to people whine on and on about how horrible white people are, does not "oppress" me in the slightest. I only see it as pitiful.

Remember the bad egg named Dylan Roof? Can you remember any of his victims? Few people can because the whole event was hijacked to drive hatred of white people using the confederate flag as a proxy. A flag of all things. But I'd only qualify that as an attempt at oppression. And again, a rather pitiful effort. As are most efforts that rely on racism (in any direction).

I wondered why? Violent racially motivated attacks like this are terrible, regardless of skin colour. More publicity I find is given to white racist crimes, and more outrage through media sources against people who are white and commit racially motivated crimes, even when the person is an addict and really out of her mind.

Am I going to say these people who are racist, happen to be darker skin tones are left wing racists? Therefore all the left is racist? Do I think it more likely that these individuals voted left, yes, because of the left wing promotion of if you are black, a minority you vote with us, but really I don’t know.

What should get more international coverage and outrage? Which one is more of a reflection on racism in our society?

I look at this Iowa women as an addiction problem, a criminal, and a person who made racist comments, and is mentally ill. not a Left vs. Right issue and a reflection on the racist right. If this person did vote I imagine they would vote for whoever said they would legalize their drug of choice.

 

That's a weird bit of American politics, pandering to the least common denominators. Part of it is the result of polarized politics and the idea that certain groups are a "natural lock" for a particular party. People who are strung out have a decision structure centered on acquisition and use of drugs, voting isn't even on the menu.

Atlanta is disbanding the narcotics unit, to focus on violent crimes. Think about that. It could be interpreted as giving a green light to drug traffic. As long as it's not violent (which is the case MOST of the time already). I smell a massive city hall kickback.

Also, as a South Carolinian, the flag needed to come down. Parts of South Carolina are trying to move into the current century but it makes it a bit difficult when we still fly the flag of a war we lost over 100 years ago on our Capitol lawn.

But I suppose you're only thinking of your feelings as a white person and this imaginary agenda to "drive a hatred of white people," rather than thinking of the people of color who had to walk past that flag every day, and particularly in the days following one of the most shockingly hateful and racially motivated crimes to occur on South Carolina soil.
