While reading that, I couldn't help thinking of all the young kids who think the most important things in life are image. I think of brats like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie who seem to have a larger following than anyone respectable. I think of Cosmo and Maxim Magazine spreading supeficial ideas. I think of reality shows who only show the most beautiful and ignorant of the population, making people think that this is the norm. I think of hip-hop videos all centred around money and women and cars and violence, giving the impression that that is really what life is about. I think of all the acivists and environmentalists who are laughed at time and time again for little more reason than they are not following popular belief. And I look at these very stereotyped people everywhere and I know that their world as superficial beings doesn't sit right with them, but they would never be disloyal to their ways for fear of being that very same thing that they were previously laughing at. Those are alot of the people who took that poll, and the numbers are sad.
I'm still in highschool and I see it all over. Most of the people here drink. In fact, a higher than normal percentage of them smoke weed. They're all still anuses though, following in their parents republican footsteps. They all support bush and war and all that monkey shit, and they will grow up to be mindless wanking corporate cannon fodder republican money whores.
It is not that hard to figure out if you like porn, smokes, weed and are underage the Republican agenda and to a lesser extent even the Democratic agenda are counter to your intrests. These youth have a clear conflict of political ideas and life style choices.
Yes, but that's the sad thing. They can't see the conflict of political & Life style choices. maybe this is the result of standardization of public schools; creative & individual thought is lost My views on the world are radically different now w/ 1 year of college than when I graduated high school. I actually LEARNED something that hadn't been gov't approved, so to speak. I am so worried about the direction the country is going w/ the ignorance of the youth today. I am neither a Democrat or Republican; I just disagree w/ the latter a lot more. Peace & Love
i'm not really worried about them. it's been my experience that the vast majority of teenagers are followers. and it's usually only a very few who don't grow out of their follower mentality. of course, many of them are going along with their parents fears. and i'd wager a goodly number of those parents are single mothers. wasn't there a shocking number of single moms going along with gw's "war on terror" tactics? anyway, the teenagers living a cushy life right now are probably just going along because they don't really think about these things. but as they get older, most of the kids i see really start looking around more. yeah, we've got a new fresh crop of fresh faced idiots coming up, but that's pretty much been the same throughout history.
Bush was running commercials in the battle ground states last fall showing a Mom in her 20s (apparently a single mom; no husband was in the car) with a minivan full of toddlers and she said, "I'm voting for Bush because he's keeping me safe." An interesting point about single parents. With two people raising children, you might expect a couple to have less fear and more confidence in themselves, as opposed to having to rely on someone in DC to protect them. I don't mean to claim that is true, but you would almost think it would be. Apparently, the RNC thought about the fears of single Moms and capitalized off of it as much as possible.
indeed. but kids eventually start making a break from mommy, and they'll start re-examining their views. as long as there are alternate sources for info there will be people paying attention to them.
i agree. just imagine in days past before there were alternate sources of information. just imagine how brainwashed we were THEN. i mean, our grandparents, their parents and so forth down the line. i suppose the fear of the next generation coming up is nothing new at all.
"indeed. but kids eventually start making a break from mommy, and they'll start re-examining their views. as long as there are alternate sources for info there will be people paying attention to them." Well I was extremely disturbed (these kids think the First Amendment goes too far?!?!?!?) but then I realized that I was raised republican too, and didn't really change my views until I actually had the resources to look things up on my own. But that was like, when I started high school...I definitely wasn't ever saying things like the 'maybe people shouldn't be allowed to print anything the govt doesn't approve of'. I mean WTF?
Yet if the FCC started cracking down harder and censoring their favorite TV shows due to decency laws these same teens would probably be the first to claim the First Amendment has been trampled on.
You should take into consideration too, that the way these questions were phrased to them could have been manipulating
If these kids were shown the lies, biases, and outright brainwashing techniques spouted from the public (and catholic) school system, and the mainstream media, I think they'd wake up really fast. It's the MISinformation they're receiving, stupid!
Yhea but their culture is also part of that too, think about how youth think überrich rapers raping about their wealth and women is somehow deep, most not even knowing about the political/social past of rapping. Compairing today youth culture icons to the past is no contest Jimi Hendrix with songs like: "If 6 was 9", "Machine Gun" and" Castles Made of Sand" to Eminem who songs are pretty shallow and meaningless.
People are stupid, most in my history class don't even know what the 1st amendment is. The Constitution is perfect and shoudl stay exactly how it is. I am afraid that dumbfucks are gonna start moving toward strong man policies and throw away our rights.
honky tonk, did you have an over-night conversion or something? for the first time in you're life you are actually making sense! psy fox, I totally agree with you, but I still think there's hope for them. I dunno why, but I do lol.
one thing my mother always told me was that you should never say the constitution is perfect and should stay exactly as it is. in doing so, you are more or less admitting that you don't really know anything about anything, and shouldn't be allowed to say anything about anything. well, my mother never said that, but... seriously, that was a really ignorant statement. the constitution is in a constant state of evolution. without the possibility to ammend the constitution, many members of this forum might still be slaves.
