BUSH: HOLDING THREE JOBS 'UNIQUELY AMERICAN' Tues Feb 8 2005 9:27:01 ET Last Friday when promoting social security reform with 'regular' citizens in Omaha, Nebraska, President Bush walked into an awkward unscripted moment in which he stated that carrying three jobs at a time is 'uniquely American.' While talking with audience participants, the president met Mary Mornin, a woman in her late fifties who told the president she was a divorced mother of three, including a 'mentally challenged' son. The President comforted Mornin on the security of social security stating that 'the promises made will be kept by the government.' But without prompting Mornin began to elaborate on her life circumstances. Begin transcript: MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute. THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs? MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes. THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)
Bush was expecting her to say, "I voted for you to keep my family safe." Bush: Get any sleep? Mom: No. Got any brains? Bush: No.
this is pretty fucking petty. i get sick of people making fun of bush's poor speaking abilities, instead of discussing the flaws of the policies his administration creates? anyone care that much of the funding for medicare and medicaid is set to be cut? or are you satisfied to laugh at the stupid shit he says?
it's kind of a combination of both. you know, comic relief and all that. get the stick outta your ass.
The fact that he can't think on his feet is a contributing factor to his bad overall leadership abilities. This is why it is relevant. Out of our entire population, it does not make sense to have the most powerful position occupied by one who is not a paragon of the populace. So really, it is not petty at all.
gravy train is not a bush fan, i can see. and once upon a time i got pissy over joke after joke when i wanted policy discussions. then i got the stick outta my ass.
It's more than his poor speaking abilities. That exchange with the single mom working three jobs shows how out of touch he is with reality. Working three jobs to stay afloat is not something most would consider a great thing. Uniquely American doesn't make something great either. It's nothing but a glittering generality, much like all the ones he popped off in his state of the union address. Bush's dad was out of touch with the mainstream also. An example being the time he blamed the LA riots on a small group of teenage hoodlums, while everyone else in the country was watching the TV seeing adults and middle age people out there looting the stores. A week later he finally realized the seriousness of the problem and changed his tone.
Here's another gem by Bush while he was giving a talk to an Obstetrics and Gynecology group last week. The actual video of it is somewhere on the web. http://www.toostupidtobepresident.com/shockwave/obgyn.htm
why is it petty? Bush's reaction to holding three jobs should have been disgust that anyone is in that situation and a promise to do something to fix it.
