It's a can't see the forest for the trees thing Last Dutch general election you had a voter turnout of 81.9%. I won't bother checking exactly what ours was, we have compulsory voting, so it's usually in the 90s. US, it was 55% Your comments there were a little strange, there isn't really a better system than a two party system, a third party is only ever of any use if one of those first two parties don't have a majority Electoral college; well no representative democracy goes by Total votes other wise you just have policies for non urban areas dictated too much by people living in the cities As for the "amount of supposedly reasonable people resorting to charged and extremist mudslinging" well they don't really have a huge % of voters that stick to the one party no matter what, compared to other countries They have a gigantic group of what are basically undecided 46% refer to them as "independent" voters in the polls but they are really "don't knows" and you'd be hard pressed to find a percentage that high anywhere else in the free world Going to much by HF, of course that's not going to give you a real picture of whats going on. When it comes to the free world, Italian politics is a lot crazy that the US, France too
I am opposed to compulsory voting. Too many idiots can't drive a car let alone know what or who they are voting for.
94 to 2002, their PM was Wim Kok But seriously, on the flip side of the argument, the Dutch don't have compulsory voting, but still got a turnout of 81.9% last election, you got to wonder about that, that is a little too goody two shoes
So it's official, he's been acquitted, surprise surprise. I checked out a couple online articles which fact-checked his SOTU speech from last night, most of which was rated as exaggerated, misleading or just plan false. The Republicans ate it up though, and I'm sure he whipped his supporters into a frenzy. This is going to be one dirty election.
grumble grumble… lol I knew it was coming. I'm thanking my stars I didn't care enough to know it was going to be today. Saw Kelly Ann Conway defending the presidents behavior on PBS news hour followed by Adam Schiff. Kelly Ann Conway was kind of trying to steer things and Schiff seemed to tell it like it is. I am not surprised but I am a little disgusted by the dishonesty of the republicans in the senate; except Mitt Romney. He spoke the truth and history will thank him...
I think his cloak has now fallen off, the people can see what a real shit he is, that if you having seen it already.
