Below is the text of a letter I just sent to CBS regarding a special report broadcast by their Sacramento affiliate.

To CBS Management,

We may sue you and your Sacramento affiliate for libel!

On Feb. 15th on the 10pm news, KOVR broadcast a series of libelous lies about our company accusing it of selling illegal drugs to children. This is a very serious allegation, and completely false! We don't sell illegal drugs, we discuss them, as is our right. We are a FREE SPEECH site and pride ourselves on it.

Therefore it was a great disservice to be accused in such a manner without having even tried to contact us to verify the story. This is downright shoddy sensationalist journalism. It's only aim was to malign our reputation (our site has won numerous awards and been featured on many TV shows).

The site whose picture appears with the story online was once an affiliate of ours, and they sell LEGAL herbal products only. In fact their store is a YAHOO store.

Also I can testify that our site is constantly being monitored by the FBI, DEA, NSA and DERA (British Intelligence service), and if there was any illegal activity on our site it would've been shut down long ago (we have been going strong for SIX years now.)

The only reason I can see that your affiliate chose to air these slanderous lies is because they received War on Drug money to do just that!

They didn't check their facts, and now are trying to hide it. I've written 4 emails and the only response I got was one refusing to provide a full transcript. The one online has been edited and our site name removed (no doubt after checking with their attorney!). But we will soon have the video which we intend to hand over to our attorney who specializes in these kinds of cases.

I have requested both an apology and a retraction. I have received no response. That just about clinches the case for us. You too will be named in any suit we file unless I hear a response from your company in short order.

This kind of deception and lies cannot go unchallenged, especially coming from media that is supposed to be unbiased. There were no opposing views presented in this report, by the way.

Is this the STANDARD to which CBS and its affiliates have sunk to in their hysteria over the war on drugs? When a website promoting FREE SPEECH is attacked for providing alternative views? If we and sites like ours didn't exist, then we would hear only ONE SIDE to the story. And believe me there is more than one side, although it appears CBS and their affiliates would like us to only hear theirs.

I hereby demand an apology and a retraction, otherwise I will let our lawyer pursue other avenues.

Bill, you'd be surprised how much of a scary thing it actually is, and yes, they do have cops and DEA monitoring sites like this. I don't know about Hipforums specifically, as it's kind of small in terms of marijuana, but sites like OverGrow are targeted pretty harshly. There's even been several people there busted because they posted too many pictures of their grow ops, and the police were able to trace them.

i didnt write that document, skip did. i just posted it to let people know because ive seen the monitoring question floating around quite a bit, and i ran into that article, so i posted it. why should i care if anyone here gives a shit in the first place? i just posted it for the hell of it. it just shows what a nosy bunch of ignorant bastards we have that run this damn country

 

well, it is of some use to us in the USA, ive suspected there have been a couple cops on here in the last week or so.

i think police have better things to do then bust 16-25 year olds who talk about pot on the net. for all anyone knows all of what any of us say could be complet bullshit.. i could tell u im sitting on 3lbs of pot and really i could never have smoked the shit befor in my life.. so really it seems like a waste of time effort and taxpayer money if u ask me

 

To basically monitor the thoughts/lingo/actions/etc. of thousands of drug users by spending a few hours on a website would not be a waste of time or energy for any law enforcement agency by any means.

They probably pay more attention to the political stuff on these forums than us talking about weed. Either way, they can't really do anything about it because talk is cheap, as the saying goes.

 

I got pmed by a guy with zero posts asking where I buy drugs on the internet, I said I didn't and got no response, so yeah cops are reading this.

 

Well hopefully that's why we don't name names, cities, or other personal identification info... and we don't post pics that can incriminate us. And we don't agree to buy bud from anyone who PM's us, and we don't go meeting anyone....

Well I think the cops would be pretty dumb to come on a site liek this for 'leads'. We all live in such scattered states and even different countries so it's not like they can herd us and arrest anybody. Plus! like nikki said people here can just lie there is no credibility in a forum like this.

I'd venture a guess it's just a load of crap. The government has much better things to do than monitor some forum that discusses drugs. What are they going to find here, you think? Absolutely nothing of value. There's no reason to be afraid or anything, unless you really just want to worry yourself for no reason. The government wouldn't care about something like this, it's just pointless.
