Wow. I've been waiting for someone to post about this! Yesss. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ARLO GUTHRIE. In honor of him, I named my '71 Volkswagen bus after him. Aw. Last year I had the opportunity to see Arlo, not once, but twice. While hanging around before the show, my friend and I decided to go outside and hang out by this coach bus we thought might be Arlo's. We sat down on a picnic table next to the bus-low and behold Arlo is right around the corner of this catering truck, drinking a his Starbucks and smoking a cigarette! It was so exciting. We went up to him and talked to him for awhile. He complimented us on our awesome hand-made tiedyed "WE DIG ARLO" shirts, and this banner that I had made beforehand. He also signed our programs and stuff. It was wonderful. He's a really great guy in person. Check out the picture below. I'm the one on the left, overcome with excitement. The picture is kind of off-center, I know. I've got a better one laying around somewhere. Oh yes, and I couldn't forget... My own "Arlo".
He's pretty good, I don't know many of his songs though. I like his cover of Walking Down The Line at Woodstock and is Coming Into Los Angeles by him too? Because that's a good song too.
I love 'Alice's Restaurant', and I admire his social awareness. His dad is a legend. 'don't touch my bags if you please mr. customs man.....'
I prefer Woody Guthry too. I've only heard Arlo on a live LP with Pete Seeger, he wasn't bad, but he has quite an unusual singing voice...sounds nothing like his dad did. He did, however, deliver a highly amusing speech about the "un-neutron bomb," that changes tanks and weapons to trees and butterflies, and makes everybody's cloths dissapear.
