People that don't like TV also like to live in their own tiny little box ..were everything is as clear and inteligent as them ... If you prefer the internet that is slightly better than TV i admit..but any person that does not like TV is a idiot.

Are you saying that by watching television I could open my mind? Thats what it sounds like to me when you say people who dont watch TV live in there own tiny boxes. I would say its more like numbing the mind. Wouldnt it be the other way around?....."I watch TV so i stay home and don't experience the world." Wouldnt that be living in you own little box. Can you specify, why exactly is everyone who doesn't like television and idiot?

    PS: I watch movies.....mostly old movies like....Clockwork Orange.....2001....Soylent Green.....etc.....etc....

I haven't had one for 8 1/2 years, and for the most part I do not like TV
The people who do watch tv all the time are the ones vegetating in their own little cocoons, slowly forgetting how to think, cuz it is not required when you watch tv aka the boob tube, the idiot box, transcendental vegetation
    who is the idiot?
I think you have it backwards Matt.

Had a bit of trouble keeping up with you their nearly missed a few points..

Anyway sweeping generalisations aside .. I would say watch TV in moderation and don't watch stuff you don't like (whats the point). You can experiance the world if your lucky , most people experiance their own city maybe their own state or country .. I personaly can't afford to go globe trotting talking with individuals around the world .. or go to all the many diffrent locations and ask all the scientists politicians etc etc what i would like. Granted TV only gives you fairly narrow mostly commonly held beliefs and info that is just repeated and panders to the masses .. but every now again it gives great info and entertainment.. I find TV along side looking into certain things on the net (if i had not watched it on the TV probably would not looked it up on the net) rewarding . TV is generaly good ,well it is here in the UK anyway.

Deep and meaningful essays on modernity right ?...yeah i like those kind of films as well ... have you read http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=903644#post903644 thats quite good as well. all brought to my attention watching TV.

Ok not every one who does not watch TV is a idiot..just most of them

I don't mind, tv, but most programmes simply don't interest me so I don't watch it often. I don't really have shows that I follow daily or weekly, I usually forget to watch my favourite programmes anyway...

I think it can have some effect on your character and way you view the world, especially with young people still in the "formative period".

I despise the people who don't think for themselves and let themselves be influenced by other people's ideas too much, no matter in what way, television or otherwise.

I have a TV, but I rarely turn it on at all. Nothing interesting that I wanna watch. I'd rather be listening to music.

I watch sitcoms to relax and have myself a laugh when I come home from work.

    I don't think I'm an idiot.

You know, television is pretty bad these days. It's basically just another drug. It warps your perceptions and makes you addicted, and it just utterly ruins your mind.
Usually. However, that's not always the case. Like anything, it is not an inherently destructive thing. We choose the world we live and in and we choose what we and all the things around us become. If TV is a vile thing, it's because that is what we have made it into. TV has the potential to become one of the most profound, widespread, and effective mediums we have at our disposal. But we squander this magnificent forum on things like "Survivor: Canada" or the like, and commercials for Wonder Bras. But it's not just what we do with it that is in our hands, it's also what we absorb from what is already there. I can honestly say that TV has made me who I am today. As a child, I was isolated by overportective parents who were, sadly, also absentee parents. The TV was to be my babysitter. I watched it all the time when I was a little kid. And I learned from it. Most of the lessons I've learned about life have been shown to me by TV programs. Most people just sit and watch their shows, and that's it. But at that age, my mind was sponge, and, unlike most people, I actually listened to what I experienced. Back when I was younger, most TV shows I watched had some subtle, or not-so-subtle, moral message to climax with. And I payed attention to this messages. I learned concepts of duality, morality, liberty, hope, perserverance, altruism, sexuality, equality, and unity from the TV shows I watched. If utilized correctly, TV can become the greatest medium we have. If not, it can be the deadliest weapon of mass destruction we have. But, either way, whether we make the airwaves a landscape of heaven or hell is irrelevant, because the only thing that seperates heaven and hell for a person is perception. Look for good and you'll find it and benefit from it. Look for evil, or just sit by in apathetic complacence, and you'll become a mirror image of corruption or nothingness. That's just my opinion, anyway.

I like TV, its just a medium and there are good and bad things on it.

i don't know why everyone gets so up in arms about it, just don't watch it so much and stop acting morally superior, y'know...

I see television watching as a kind of sick addiction. People will get hooked to a show and then think 'I can't miss the next episode of this show! I have to get home now!' My mom is that way with American Idol. I don't like t.v. I figure that there are better ways to spend my time than watching some people on a screen.
