My father and I used to debate on this all the time... Can you find religion/God in a bar? Should you converse on the subject of God in a bar?? He said no because if you are in a bar you are sinning and while you are sinning you cannot be close to God. I said yes because you can find God anywhere. Also, because I don't put my faith in the bible so over-drinking/being in a bar (goes hand in hand and you know it) are not sins to me. On the topic of talking about God while in a bar.. why not? Why does it matter where you discuss God or your beliefs??
I don't think there is anything wrong with talking about religon in a bar, also the bible does not call drinking a sin. I'm atheist though so I think if you do "find god" you are kinda foolish
The bible does say that over doing anything is a sin doesn't it? Over eating, over drinking, whatever. I might be wrong though. I'm no bible expert. So, people who find God are foolish, but people who don't are right?
being in a bar is far too general to think of as a sin or not, also, i think that one that is sinning can find god. like if they are beating someone to death and suddenly they realize how horrible that is and change or something.
No Catholics and mideval priests say that stuff Depends, people who don't even look it up are foolish...
i wish people would just get over the religion thing its over played and i'm sick of hearing about it
pfft. nothing wrong with being in a bar. alcohol consumption is not a sin. why did they run out of wine at the wedding? BECAUSE THEY WERE PARTYING! and what does mom say "JESUS! TEND THE BAR"
If something great happens then it's 'god' showing his power.. when something bad happens then it's 'god' works in mysterious ways. Common sense don't come fitted as standard so I guess some people need a god to show them what is right from wrong. 90% of the human population is religious and this shows that the majority isn't always correct.
What do you mean by SOMETIMES it's god? That bible was written by men, not divine intervention. If god knows all then why did he make men and animals with the capabilities to rape and murder? Why did he put his 'son' on earth to be crucified and tortured? I imagine that the bible teaches good things about human nature (when you read past the colourful stories and magic tales) but lets not forget it was written by 4 regular guys when they thought the world was flat! Karma? Do you mean inner peace? I have that without fearing one of the 100+ gods that were manifested my mans fear of the unknown. Edit: Don't take this personal, I'm playing around....
there are the seven deadly sins, and drinking isnt one of em... lust, anger, pride, envy, gluttony, greed, and sloth.
glut·ton·y ( P ) n. pl. glut·ton·ies Excess in eating or drinking. I'm not going to address some of the other comments in this thread even though I'd like to. Most of you don't give a damn about answering the question. You just want to spew off your opinions that have nothing to do with it. The question was if thought you could find God or religion in a bar and is it acceptable to speak of God in a bar. If I was truely a 'religious' person I would say that it is not possible and not acceptable. Since I'm not religious I say it sure is possible and it sure is acceptable.
Yes, but if you do everything in moderation you are not sinning. Only overduing it is sinning. Me i drink a little whiskey once in awhile but i dont get drunk, therefore not sinning.
I don't particularly believe in 'sin', so that arguement never stood any ground with me. I was just kind of giving you both view points on it. If you look at this from the Christian view point you cannot find God in a bar, right? Nor is it acceptable to talk about God in that environment. I was kind of hoping a religious person would give their opinion on this.
Read the Gospels, Jesus spent ALOT of time in bars. (not sure where this is but it's in there somewhere) "Why does he covort with drunkers and tax collecters?" Jesus: "Because it's the sick who need a physician, not the healthy". I like to think he was being facitious; he was saying "I'm not going waste my time to trying to teach anything to anybody who already thinks they know everything". Why not a bar? God is the Universe, most bars are in the Universe, right?
Thats a wonderful point NaykidApe. (I like you by the way) Perhaps a bar is the best place to discuss God. You know, change the ways of the 'sinner' and whatnot??
WOW, i thought i answered your question from a christian perspective. and you got kinda pissy about it.
