Just bought a WiFi extender and it's instructing me to set up an app on my phone. The last WiFi extenders I had over a decade ago did not involve any app! To don't know much about this stuff but if you want to buy say, a toaster, you just want to be able to open it and set it up to go with 60 seconds. If you have to spend 30 minutes trying to hook the toaster up to some bloody app on your phone, it seems more hassle than it's worth!
I think there are still a lot of app free alternative options. Certainly for toasters but also for wifi extenders. Often the app is optional too, it works without it as well. But if obligatory i definitely look for an alternative first!
Apps keep you engaged with them, some have ads and they make additional revenue from that. Not saying it’s right, but that’s why they have them.
There's a difference between data collecting in case it might come in handy (I mean why not?) and watching someone. Realistically no one gives a shit what you or I do.
I let rip a huge fart the other day and my phone beeped at me and said for $1 I can buy an app that'll fart for me.
realistically life should be that simple. its the commerce in metadata, who buys it and what they do with it when they do.
