It’s my guess it’s politically motivated, because I don’t believe you’re being driven out of ignorance, fear, and stupidity as to the nature of COVID-19.

I bet if Trump doubled-down on even more social distancing, and demanded a nationwide shutdown for the remainder of the year, you would lead the charge.

 

In the meanwhile, Massachusetts has seen 174 more coronavirus-related deaths on Saturday bringing the death toll to 2,730, and 2,379 more people tested positive bringing the total to 53,348.


49 residents of a Belmont Nursing home died from the coronavirus, another 67 residents tested positive, along with 73 staff members. But who cares about them, they're old and would have died in a few years anyway, and the staff members wouldn’t be working at a nursing home if they were qualified to work at a real hospital. They were at the bottom of their class at nursing school and didn’t take proper precautions to protect themselves, so fuck em' - let them die - right VG?

You are coming from a position that was never true in the first place.

Lockdowns were about the unsubstantiated theory that by doing so, the spread of the virus would slow to a point where each countries healthcare system was not overwhelmed. It was never about saving every life, otherwise we would stay in lockdown forever in case those nursing home residents contract any other contagious disease

 

This thread is going to go on for years. We are still in the early stages

So it's probably about time to restart the US right? Where it makes sense. Some places need to keep it in place longer.

As I understood it from the CDC, the purpose of flattening the curve is to prevent the healthcare system from being overwhelmed. The number of infections stays the same.

We didn't intervene early enough, and now herd immunity is the only solution. This will certainly be back twice as fierce in September.

 

Yeah expect that second wave sometime this fall.

It's actually happened a number of times in the past including the Asian Flu outbreak of the late 1950s,
and following the Hong Kong Flu in 1968.

 

So we also need to massively invest in infrastructure. Testing and contact tracers, as well as medical supplies to handle another outbreak.

This is almost certainly seasonal, but we may have a chance to restrain it next season. Round 1 goes to SARS-COV-2.

 

Yeah until that vaccine is created we're vulnerable.
