"Health officials from Washington State in the US have reported that newly diagnosed cases of coronavirus caught the potentially deadly illness on purpose at “COVID-19 parties”.

Walla Walla County health officials say people diagnosed with coronavirus have told county investigators they attended parties specifically organised to spread coronavirus in recent weeks.

Megan Debolt, the director of community health for Walla Walla County, said one of the parties with at least 20 attendees has so far resulted in two positive cases of COVID-19."

Superspreader COVID-19 parties lead to spike in US cases

It reminds me of "Bugchasers". A name given to people who intentionally get infected with HIV.

Why would you expect a 20 year old not to though?, they would be more employable for starters

If it's case of everyone is going to end up getting it, it's the smart thing to do now

Sure they express remorse if hounded by the media afterwards, doesn't mean they are remorseful

Will the government keep paying workers’ wages?

The chancellor has the most delicate of balancing acts over the eventual withdrawal of the Job Retention Scheme.

From inception, it was not just a massive piece of government support spending, but, as importantly, a piece of mass applied psychology.

The "furlough" scheme was designed to get into the heads of employers and persuade them to hold off on firing workers from businesses suffering in the pandemic shutdowns.

To park them, to put them on "standby mode" as one cabinet minister put it to me, so they could be switched back on to contribute to a V-shaped bounce back recovery when the pandemic peak passed.

But at £8bn so far, it is possible that the expert forecasts of a total cost of £39bn by July, is reached, which does put the cost of the scheme per month at the same order as monthly NHS funding.

So while the government says the spending has been good value for money, it is also, in the chancellor's words not sustainable.

    'No cliff edge'
This has led to a suggestion that support will be pulled, and the Treasury clarifying that there will be no "cliff edge". The Treasury did not say that people were "addicted" to the funding - it has only just started to be paid out.

Will the government keep paying workers’ wages?

this is RIDICULOUS. I'd heard about a few states revoking plastic bag bans already.
What about every handbag and backpack and whatever, that people bring in? Or the shoes they walk in wearing?
    Those things don't get washed.
And why would five people touch my reusable bag?
If the bag has coronavirus, don't I also have it?
This is absurd and I'm positive is just nonsense pushed by the plastic industries.

I'll take this opportunity to point out I don't post everything in this thread because I agree with it, just documenting everything

In this case, yeah, ridiculous, and jaw dropping how quickly concern for the environment went out the window for something that has no basis in common sense

Well, at least we find out the truth, sticking reusable bags in your washing machine once a week was going to be too hard for most first worlders to save the whales
