Trump knows he can't defend his coronavirus response debacle. He has given up on his deteriorating briefings, which ended pathetically with his remarks that implied ingesting Lysol. He has shifted into a full campaign mode of trying to blame it on Biden and the governors.

After praising China and its president for their help with the coronavirus, Trump's approach now is to make China the enemy, affiliate Biden with China as much as possible, and paint Biden as the one who is responsible for the coronavirus pandemic using a guilt-by-association ploy.

All the power, no accountability. That's Trump's COVID success.
Analysis: As the president declares victory over the coronavirus amid a rising death toll, his clear focus on extricating himself from responsibility becomes clearer.

All the power, no accountability. That's Trump's COVID success.

    excerpt:

"Trump would like to reduce his role in the virus response, as he has shown by demanding that states engage in his plan for "Reopening America Again." Officials inside the administration have warned that there could be a "catastrophic resurgence" of the disease because there's no vaccine, no verified effective pharmaceutical treatment and no telling when enough tests will be available. But the White House insists Americans will be safe if governors do their jobs.

For much of America, the coronavirus crisis is an ongoing period of fatality and fear, of isolation and obsessive hand-washing. For Trump, it's a bygone problem he washed his hands of."

True but that still doesn’t make Mexican a separate race. It’s a nationality. Yet lots of Latino comedians crack the same joke about being called Mexican in some parts of the country, and get called Cuban or Puerto Rican in other parts.

Justice Department dropping Flynn's Trump-Russia case

Justice Department dropping Flynn's Trump-Russia case

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON (AP) — In an abrupt about-face, the Justice Department on Thursday said it is dropping the criminal case against President Donald Trump's first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, abandoning a prosecution that became a rallying cry for the president and his supporters in attacking the FBI's Trump-Russia investigation.

The action was a stunning reversal for one of the signature cases brought by special counsel Robert Mueller. It comes even though prosecutors for the past three years have maintained that Flynn lied to the FBI in a January 2017 interview about his conversations with the Russian ambassador.

Flynn himself admitted as much, pleading guilty before later asking to withdraw the plea, and he became a key cooperator for Mueller as the special counsel investigated ties between Russia and Trump's 2016 political campaign.

Thursday's action was swiftly embraced by Trump, who has relentlessly tweeted about the “outrageous” case and last week pronounced Flynn “exonerated," and it is likely to energize supporters of the president who have taken up the retired Army lieutenant general as a cause."

Armed activists escort black lawmaker to Michigan's Capitol after coronavirus protest attended by white supremacists

    excerpt:

"For Anthony, the guns and hate symbols weren’t the only dangerous elements of the protests. She said many of the demonstrators ignored the social distancing and mask guidelines, getting extremely close to her and “yelling and screaming” in her face, raising concerns of potential coronavirus spread.

“I am a woman and, you know, heavy, large men yelling and kind of approaching, it really is frightening,” said Anthony, adding, “As an elected official ... I have pretty thick skin. You kind of have to in this job, but we’re in the middle of a pandemic and I am particularly ... unnerved by it because I have seen the impact up close of this coronavirus.”

Michigan has been a coronavirus hot spot, and Anthony said she knows multiple people in her Lansing district who have died from the outbreak.

Anthony said she was disturbed by the fact that the Michigan State Police did not do more to separate lawmakers from the armed protests. She also claimed some officers were “posing in photos” with the protesters."

The people who set Michael Flynn up are terrible human beings.

Trump made vague references to an alleged Obama rule that supposedly was impeding the implementation of coronavirus tests and that Trump said he rescinded.

Trump’s Misplaced Blame on Obama for Coronavirus Tests

Trump’s Misplaced Blame on Obama for Coronavirus Tests

    excerpt:

"After Redfield’s explanation, Trump then referred to the “Obama rule” again, saying, “we ended that rule very quickly.”

When asked in a March 5 Fox News town hall whether he blamed Obama, Trump insisted that he didn’t, before claiming again that his administration inherited “some decisions which were not good decisions” and that he “undid some of the regulations.”

It’s not clear what regulation Trump and Redfield have in mind, and neither the White House, FDA, nor the CDC responded to requests for more information. But experts told us that no such “rule” was implemented under Obama.

“It’s not true,” said Rachel Sachs, a Washington University in St. Louis law professor, of Trump’s claim in a phone interview. The Obama administration did attempt to impose a risk-based system of regulation on laboratory developed tests, or LDTs, and introduced draft guidance in 2014. But that guidance was never finalized, and was withdrawn after Trump won the election in 2016. “It never went into effect,” she said, “so it’s not an issue to walk back.”

Citing the withdrawn guidance document, Jeffrey Gibbs of the firm Hyman, Phelps & McNamara, who is an expert on FDA law, also told us that the president’s claim was “not accurate.”"

Trump’s Misplaced Blame on Obama for Coronavirus Tests

    excerpt:

"Erika Lietzan of the University of Missouri School of Law said it was possible Trump and Redfield were thinking of a de facto FDA policy that applies to lab developed tests in emergency situations, such as an outbreak, in which an emergency use authorization, or EUA, is involved.

To Lietzan, that appears to be most relevant to the new policy the Trump FDA announced on Feb. 29, and which administration officials trumpeted in the briefing. The new policy states that because of the current coronavirus outbreak, the FDA would allow labs to create and use their own in-house tests immediately, without FDA review, as long as they completed an EUA request within 15 days.

But in this case as well, there is no formal document that Trump needed to rescind to allow labs to create their own coronavirus tests."

What the anti-stay-at-home protests are really about
They’re part of a Trumpian strategy from some conservative groups to reshape public opinion.
    By Jane Coaston

What the anti-stay-at-home protests are really about

    excerpts:

"For some on the right, the plan seems simple: vilify Democratic governors and agitate for the end of shutdown orders. Then “reopen the economy” and spur a massive turnaround in the nation’s economic prospects just in time for Trump to be reelected in November. If the pandemic recedes, he can claim he was entirely responsible; but if people continue to die, he can place the blame on Democratic governors."

"But there’s a problem for Trump: The public, including the vast majority of Republicans, largely supports social distancing measures, and new polling shows that half of Republicans are concerned stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures will be lifted too quickly. Research shows that many Americans began social distancing before they were urged to do so by the government, and likely wouldn’t stop even if such orders were lifted. In short, the anti-shutdown-order protests don’t mirror public opinion. And in order for Trump to benefit from their potential impact, they need to — and coronavirus needs to spare rural America (which it isn’t).

Coronavirus has now become part of the fabric of Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign — one aimed largely at dividing Americans along sociopolitical and cultural lines. But the biggest question remains: Will it work?"

Coronavirus job losses hit these 3 states the hardest

Coronavirus job losses hit these 3 states the hardest

    excerpt:

"The latest swath of applications brings the total amount of jobless claims to more than 33 million over the past seven weeks, more than wiping out the 20 million jobs added over the last decade.

But some states have been feeling the impact of job losses more than others. A Yahoo Finance review of jobless claims data from the U.S. Department of Labor reveals that Georgia and other states in the South have been particularly hard hit since the coronavirus pandemic brought the country’s economy to a grinding halt.

Comparing each state’s average weekly jobless claims totals over the past six weeks to the week before shutdowns started occurring, reveals Georgia, Florida, and Alabama to be the three states showing the largest percentage spike in people applying for unemployment benefits. Georgia in particular saw jobless claims average a nearly 5,000% spike versus the week ending March 14. Florida and Alabama saw slightly less dramatic peaks, with claims surging about 4,000%."

Donald Trump fired Flynn for lying to the vice President.
He was under investigation on kidnapping charges of a Turkish religious leader, Fethullah Gülen, and plead guilty twice to "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the FBI about secretly talking to Russia, who had interfered in our presidential election.

Staffer for Vice President Mike Pence tests positive for coronavirus

Staffer for Vice President Mike Pence tests positive for coronavirus

    excerpt:

"WASHINGTON – An aide to Vice President Mike Pence has tested positive for coronavirus, a senior administration official confirmed Friday to NBC News.

This comes a day after news broke that President Donald Trump's personal valet had also tested positive.

A spokeswoman for Pence did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

Pence was scheduled to travel to Des Moines, Iowa, Friday morning, but his departure from Andrews Air Force Base was delayed by nearly an hour as staff dealt with news of the diagnosis. Reporters traveling with Pence said several staffers disembarked from Air Force Two at the last minute, prior to takeoff.

As of Friday, more than 75,000 Americans have died of Covid-19, and more than 1.2 million have tested positive."

    excerpt:

"Former national security adviser Michael Flynn was attending secret intelligence briefings with then-candidate Donald Trump while he was being paid more than half a million dollars to lobby on behalf of the Turkish government, federal records show.

Flynn stopped lobbying after he became national security adviser, but he then played a role in formulating policy toward Turkey, working for a president who has promised to curb the role of lobbyists in Washington."
