lord i have had it with my daughters teacher, she is rude when I speak with her in person, and the thing that makes me angry the most.... my daughter is left handed, she now writes some letters backwards because she is being forced to write with her right hand. When she used her left hand it was never a problem........... ARGGGGGGGG!!!
I am left handed and when I was in school one of my teachers tried to force me to write with my right hand. When my mom found out, haha there was basically hell to pay I would be pissed as hell if someone tried to force my child to do anything...
My dad was forced into right hand writing, but thank god, here in germany the principle now is, that teachers are not allowed to do things like that. I mean how deep in the middle ages live these teachers?
OMG, i cant believe that someone would still be doing that! ::shakes head in disbelief:: get her ass fired!
take it to someone higher and tell them how angry you are! If they don't do something about it tell a new paper reporter or something else where they will get attention for not doing anything about this. If someone did this to Croix who is left handed they would regret the day they were born. :X ok... not that bad but I'd be pissed!
What an archaic practice! There's little doubt you could get the teacher a major ass-chewing for that BS.
That's just terrible. Does the teacher have any reason for this? If it was my kid, I'd certainly have something to say about that. That could have longterm effects on the child, and result in things like dyslexia. I say you go down to the school and kick the teacher's ass .
Report it immediately. It's illegal and bad teaching method. My husband was a lefty, and his teachers in Panama tied his left hand behind his back and forced him to use his right. Can't read a word of what he writes to this day, and he's 52 years old.
They did that with me. Well, I wasn't left handed, I was ambidextrous, so it wasn't so bad. But it was still easier for me to write with my left hand. But my teachers told me I had to learn to write with my right hand better. Lord only knows why. It wasn't like that would have any effect on my life. Then they would give me bad grades in handwriting because I couldn't write as well with my right hand. Go figure.
lord mine used to put a little plastic thing on my pencil to keep it from hurting my right hand. i wold get so aggrevated!! i am gonna talk to her teacher about it and if she dont straighten up im gonna talk to someone else. it aggrevates the hell out of me
Wow, I can't believe all the work our parents did, and this still goes on. My kindergarten teacher did this, and while I am fine with my right hand now, I still remember it and hate her for that. I mean, I only have like three memories of kindergarten, and this is the clearest! I would caution trying to "get her fired" because if that's her only fault she may have the corresponding good quality of being willing to adapt. Give her an invitation to the 20th century, and then since sh'e already too late for that party, another one for the 21st. Best wishes
That's terrible, totally agree with everyone else's suggestions. Both my brother and I are left handed. We certainly never got any agro. Always thought they quit that years ago. For some reason he holds his pen strangly, but has beautiful handwriting so gets away with it. As for me, well I've spent 15 plus years of writing and have yet to encounter any problems.
That teacher has too many other things to focus on to worry about which hand a child uses! Or she ought to! Funkyphresh, give her one more chance and then to the principal's office with it. And then to the school board, if need be. They are supposed to be teaching, not deciding which hand to use.
People still force kids to write with their right hand? Sheez, my parents told me it was done to lefties at their school, but my mom's 73 years old...
It's not uncommon for elementary schools to try really hard to make the child "normal". Which sometimes means they try to stamp out individuality- I know that in elementary school, teachers critisized me for things that in college, my professors encourage me to do- but mostly, it's just small stupid things that just make kids a little different. I think some of them are genuinely concerned and are afraid that if the kid doesn't act a certain way, they'll get picked on. There's an element of truth in that, too- I got picked on growing up, partially because I had different priorities than the other kids. I was, for the most part, the quiet bookworm who sat in the corner reading, writing or talking to my one friend. In middle school, I was the super depressed kid who wrote somewhat disturbing poetry instead of paying attention in class. They also all thought I was a lesbian, probably because my 4th grade teacher did, and it's a small town. Rumors spread fast. We've all played telephone. That teacher is one of the exceptions to my "I think most teachers are just trying to help" belief. She was just a bitch. See "Grammer School Teachers" thread. I've rambled way off topic. My point was that teachers sometimes try to protect their students from being different, because kids do get picked on for it, but it doesn't help. I wound up being pretty abnormal, anyway. But writing with my left hand didn't make me that way.
WOW! That is really messed up! Iwould go to the teacher and then go to the principal. That is illegal what your daughter's teacher is doing................ ~namaste~
