I'm inheriting a clarinet, and have never played one, but love the sound. Anyone play, or have advice for a beginner? I cant wait to get started!
I've been playing clarinet for 6 years or so. A fingering chart would help a lot if you're just starting out. If you already read music, it's not a hard instrument to pick up at all. Good luck
I play clarinet a bit, but really just for fun anymore. I cant read music with it very well anymore. I was thinking of writing some new music with it though. My only advice is to stick with it. I wish that I would have.
Get cheap reeds to start out with... and thin ones at that (unless you've ever played a reeded instrument). Ricos would be good because you'd get a crappy sound off of them, but they're cheap enough that it won't matter when you go through a 100 of them breaking them. Work slowly, you won't be able to get the high notes out at first, and concentrate on breathing. Most music stores have cheap beginning clarinet books, so just ask what schools require children to bring to their first year band class and that would be a good idea to start on. Just keep up practicing and it's great. Good luck!
