What music do you think stands the test of time and still sounds relevent/interesting/classic, and what music doesn't. Ages well-I'm going to say Bowie and Pink Floyd, still innovative sounding, somewhat fresh ages not well-Nirvana, although i liked them when they were around, it now sounds very stale and dated to me. who and why?
I agree with the two you listed. Bowie becuase of the good use of synthesisers(sp), Floyd because they're genius, ahead of their time I'm sure you guys don't need me to tell you! Some of The Who and The Beatles songs too. A lot of 80s music ages very badly. I'm not sure which bands or songs, I try and steer clear of most music from that era. Not that its that bad, its just not my cup of tea.
Haha, of course Nirvana aren't going to age well. It's hard to keep an innovative sound when the key member of the group is dead, and the band aren't together, let alone recording new stuff. I definately agree with Bowie aging well. The world will end the day he stops making music. Also, Red Hot Chilli Peppers have been around for a while, and they just keep getting better and better. Still standing in a few decades: underground music (metal, darkwave, underground rap, etc.), Elvis Presley, jazz, probably most classics from the sixties and seventies. Not standing: insignificant soulless modern keyboard music, boybands, blonde playbacking bimbos.
I guess not. I love the whole grunge thing, but for the most part, it really hasn't survived the last decade, in terms of standing out in pop-culture. I haven't gotten sick of Nirvana, or the sound of the genre in general, but I suppose this sort of thing is really subjective.
Some of Styx's recent stuff is ok. ...Sometimes I wonder how well britney spears & ashlee simpson songs will hold up within the next decade.
I agree with David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and [some of] the Beatles stuff, but I would like to add Brian Eno to the list. To me, his music from over thirty years ago sounds just as fresh as could be. His degree of innovation is still today not commonly surpassed, and some of his synth work still (to me) sounds like something out of the future.
ages well: Red hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, a lot of 70s- early 80s rock ages poorly: All of the popular music now
well- Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre not well- Eminem, went from being funnily insane to being a gangster wannabe
