This is a really cool site. They recycle lables discarded by the manufacturers and make really cool bags. http://www.ecoistbags.com/
people used to make stuff like that out of starburst wrappers at school for free. It's definitely a cool concept, don't get me wrong, but I can't believe they're trying to sell bags for near $300. That's insane. I'd never waste a paycheck on something that was meant to be garbage....
does anyone know how they're made? it looks like a simple weave. hm, i wonder if there's anything on craftster...
Here's what they do: For the zipper puches they take a cloth zipper bag and sew it inside of the woven wrapper part. The weave is really simple. What makes them so complex is how they weave it so that patterns form out of the little bits of the labels that you can see. For the tote bags, I think they also use a cloth (or some other material) as an inside liner and then anchor the straps to that. Hope that gives you an idea of how it's done. I think anybody with some weaving skills could do this (maybe not as fancy with the label patterns). Peace, Isaac
that makes sense, isaac. what kind of adhesive would you use on the ends? ps, i like this style of bag a lot better than the caprisun purses, etc. . i like that the ecoists bags arent a walking billboard for some 'product'~most of the logos are hidden or cropped down so much that they're not immediately recognizable. i dont like to support hidden or blatant label branding.
These bags are sooo funky I love them!!! I think it's a great idea what this artist is doing. She is keeping these resused materials out of landfills and making cool fashionable items! The price seems fair for me. I mean someone sits there making each and every single bag by hand, they are one of a kind items! One day they will become collectibles....I've already got mine.....I do appreciate the work, time, and dedication of a handmade one-of kind item! I rather pay $300 for one of these bags than a Gucci or LV that they put into a machine and then 2000 of them come out the same and everyone has..... Im all about supporting artisans! I hope they sell a lot of them too because for every bag they sell they plant a tree! Well anything to keep this earth cleaner! Love & Peace luvearth!!!
