Im from massachusetts and i plan on goin to college in Cali. I visited UC santa cruz over the summer and it seems like a nice hippie school. I'm assuming it's a pretty liberal school considering its in santa cruz which is cool. I was just wondering if anyone goes/went there and could tell me a little bit about it. Also what kinda grades am i gonna need to get in (in high school and on the SAT).

My friend goes to UCSC, and I'm going to an environmental convergence there two weekends from now. Yeah, it's a really chill school... good location- drive two hours north to UC Berkeley and the people are NorCal hot, and drive two hours south to UC Santa Barbara and the people are SoCal hot. And UCSC people are really nice and really chill. Beautiful scenery (some of the cleanest air in Cali). It's not crazy like Cal, UCLA or UCI, which are so freakin big and crowded. It's relatively small but it's pretty diverse and has lots of student-led organizations for its size. You'd like it if you're into that stuff. Be prepared for Asians...if you go to any UC, you're gonna Asian-ize yourself (yay Asians!! ;))

UCSC has the highest acceptance rate of all the UCs. You could get in with a 3.0, but try and do well in math and science because they're nationally renowned for those programs. And remember that UCs love extracurricular activities, and SC is a green campus, so join some human rights/environmental clubs or something like that. SATs are prefered over ACTs- try for mid 1100s. Maybe you'll have to do better than what I said because you're from out of state, but that shouldn't be too hard. Hope that helps :)
