Yeah I'm going to actuly buy my first pair of flip flops to wear insted of shoes, i've only had maybe 2 pairs in my whole life and i never wore them in public because theres just something about me showing my feet of i don't like. I know this is really really really stupid but does anyone have advice on brands or such.

I don't really know about brands or anything, I'd say just go try some one, find ones that are comfortable, as that's what matters... :D

Brands??? Hey, we're talking flip-flops here, not designer jeans. Just go to Wal-Mart or Target and get some that are comfortable. You can pay a lot for a status-symbol brand, but they're no better than the cheap ones. Fit and comfort are the most important thing.

oh i wasn't looking for anything namebrand....i just wanted to know if anyone thought there was a company that made commfy shoes... If someone was asking me about Jeans i'd tell them Levi over Wrangler cause to me Levi fit better *shurgs*

I'll agree with what was said here previously, just go to a place like Wal-mart and get the cheap flops, once they are broken in, they feel wondelful against your feet. Don't be afraid to wear them in public, flip flops are "in" now, lots of guys wear them. I was a little unsure of wearing them at first, and that was over 20 years ago, before they really became popular.

As far as shoes go, I think most of us here despise them, but if you are looking for footwear that feels a little closer to shoes then take a look here.

I'll go against the grain here...I honestly consider myself a flip-flop connoiseur. My recommendations:

I've tried the crappy kind from the drugstore, but I've never had them last more than a year before the straps pull out and/or they get ruined soles. I have one pair of these $2.99 flip flops, but I only put them on at night after I put lotion on my feet so I don't track greasy footprints all over the house. ;)

For cheap flip flops, Eddie Bauer actually makes a really good cheapo pair, but they can be hard to find. I got mine for $7.50, and they've lasted me nearly 2 and a half years now. They have a very soft, yet durable rubber sole with woven straps.

If you want to step up to higher quality, I highly recommend what I wear: Reef Smoothy flip flops. They're on the pricey side for flip flops ($20 and up) but I can say from experience that they are so much more comfortable and durable than anything else I've tried. And they have a lot of cool colors to choose from. You can find them pretty easily using a google search, and even by searching amazon.com. The sole is sturdy, the footbed is comfortable and even after a year they don't break down like other sandals do. AND I've even been able to throw them in the washer and dryer to get them clean and they aren't any worse for wear.

Ones to avoid - Teva flip flops. Well, unless you LIKE foot odor. I tried these and while they were comfortable and soft, the footbed was made of some kind of material that must LOVE bacteria because within a week of owning them they smelled worse than any pair of shoes I've ever owned in my life. I've never had that problem at all with any other flip flops because they typically air dry and keep moisture out, but I can't say that about the Teva's.

    Suggestion:

Check out http://www.zappos.com they have a massive collection of footwear including sandals. I bought a pair online from them the Brand is Hurleylnt and am very happy with them. Zappos has photos, angle views (front-back-side) of all their products and they have at least a 100 brands, oh and the prices are good and they ship in a few days. Geez I sound like an advertisement for them.

I've had the same flip flops for about 6 years or so. They're amazingly durable. I think I got them at Longs Drugs for about $7.99. They have wide and soft lined straps.

I'd also be interested in trying the rope sandals. They sound real comfy and dry.

Flip flops are great. I started wearing them like nuts last summer. You might not have problems with this but, I thought i'd mention a slight set back I had.
Between my big toe and second biggest toe on both feet I got these really sore spots, but eventually they callused over and they just look like little skin bumps. During that time, I took a break from the "thong" flip flops, and wore the ones with a straight horizontal strap that goes over all of the toes. So yeah. That's the story of my toe bumps. Good luck!

Amazing how much choice here! About 300 different flip flops...
And an exemple of how a good shopping site should be, too!
