Have you ever really thought about the symbolism in porn? Do men get turned on by a horse getting head? or is it the degrading action the woman has to perform that turns them on?

    Hm.. a few things:

    1) it's pornogrAphy (from the Greek pornographos.. which can be traced back to pernanai (from the root per= to traffic in, to sell) and graphein (to write). ;)

    2) since this is a women forum you might get biased or one sided respons here.. try the Real Kinky forum (it's part of the Love and Sex forum).. there are a lot of openly discussions about all kinds of stuff there and I think most of the people there watch porn so they'd actually know what they are talking about.

3).. very interesting question.. but for the record.. there are people out there (more than you'd think) who actually enjoy sex with animals.. google 'zoophilia' or give Omniwulf a PM (note that this is different from beastiality).

My thoughts on the subject... in this particular case it does seem a bit degrading or really submissive.. but porn as a whole has so many different genres, including a lot of girl on girl, dominatrix, girls on top, guys being tied up and humiliated.. etc etc.. so.. the whole dominance/submission thing is something of both genders.. and when it comes to the appearance of women.. there is everything online.. from the barely 18 year olds who look super-innocent, to the implants barbie-look-a-likes to really fat, really skinny, really beautiful, really ugly.. to even midgets and handicapped women. Same goes for men. It's all there :) Read into it what you want ;)

I am having a difficult time expressing exactly what I want to say, but I'll try. I get the impression that a lot of it is about the degradation. I am not aware of porn in which women are treated well. Then again, I'm not into porn. But if it really isn't about degradation, then why do men like to watch women doing disgusting, demeaning things that the women in their lives aren't willing to do? If it's just a healthy way for men to enjoy themselves, then why isn't more porn about normal women who look and act like the women that we know?

I have to wonder, what happened to those women that made it so that now they're willing to do this? Were they abused? Are they actually, genuinely, in real life happy that they went this route? Is this what they wanted to be when they grew up?

And how can healthy men, fathers, sons, husbands, boyfriends, brothers, watch women being treated like objects, like garbage, like total shit, and enjoy it?

The fact that they watch stuff that most women don't want to do, to me that just makes it seem like they don't relate to women in a healthy way, as if they get off on women being degraded.

From my personal experience, the men in my life who I have been aware of using porn, have been misogynists.

Granted, I probably don't know about all the men in my life that do it, but the misogynists in my life have seemed to enjoy it.

Im male but ill still say it, dont assume that all men get turned on by a horse getting a bj, or that all women are the victims in the porn.. its just reversed sexism.

Just for the record.. there is a really shady side to porn, but it's more the snuff and crush movie genre and not so much the porn.

That being said.. there are people out there who enjoy poo and pee sex, who like to get humiliated (watch 'Secretary', it's a cinematic film so no porn, but it kinda explains how a 'master' - 'slave' situation works)..

However, I'm sure there are women in the porn industry that are being abused or have a history of abuse. That sucks.. but just because a woman is or plays the part of the submissive one, that doesn't mean that she is abused or that she doesn't like it. Like I said.. there are a lot of people who do like it.

Why to people look at stuff where other people aren't treated nice? First: it's not a peek into a real relationship: it's done by script. Although the sex is real, like real intercourse (unless you're watching cheesy softporn) it's not supposed to be an exact image or a 'normal relationship'. Why not? For the same reason that shows like 'Law and Order' or 'CSI' or whatever movie, pick one.. isn't the exact replica of real life.. people want to see something a bit more extreme.. a bit more 'out there'.

Now for the people that think everything they do in porn is perfectly ok to expect your spouse to do in the bedroom. That is the same thinking as a person playing a violent videogame and thinking it's ok to beat up someone in real life as well.

Porn can be quite educational.. for example.. where I live guys aren't circumsized because that's just not in our culture.. so if it wasn't for porn, I'd never seen an cut penis. Or a man with all his pubic hair shaven. Or a really big black dick (teehee), or a woman who's more flat than I am.. or someone with boobs AND a penis.. or a midget doing a fat lady.. hehe.. it's all out there.. and I'm curious enough to peek at certain things. Not because it gets me of, but because I'm curious. Some stuff does get me off.. but still those aren't things I'd want to do in real life (for different reasons).

Women shouldn't feel so threatened by porn. Not all men that watch porn are creeps.. not all men who watch gangbangs want you to get on all fours while they invite their friends and get out the KY.

well, i guess opinions are varied, it depends on the point of view of the individual...

If you ask radical feminists, they would instantly tell you that porn is degrading to women, as the act of heterosexual sex itself (if it's hetero sex) is invasive and degrading to women...Back during the second wave of feminism, porn was perceived as something that undervalued women's sexuality, as it was used by men mostly, to arouse sexual sensations from a women's nakedness...

however, i dont really see porn as something that should be banned or anything like that...there's a growing market there, and the majority of people who are willing to take part are there cos they want to !! in the case it wasnt that way, i guess we could imply that exploitation is taking place...but that wont stop people from buying it would it?

On the other hand, if you take porn as what it actually is, like an instrument of arousal or recreation, from the point of view of the person who watches it, i guess it's kind of a moral decision and no-one has the right to tell them not to watch it. however, i'm really against the kind of porn that shows women in a exploitative/demeaning way (would that be all porn?) i guess i might be contradicting myself, but as i said, the porn industry is a huge, there's so much in it that it would be impossible to say what might be right for some cos it'll be perceived as wrong for others.

oh please.... blame porn for poinsoning society. *snorts*

id say blame the parents for letting kids look at porn. i never see any until i was over eighteen. be a good parent and stop worrying about what adults like to look at on occasion when they have mature minds.

Theres not much wrong with porn, if they were really fucked up (not a pun) then they would probably be hooking not filming.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with porn (well, the non-extreme ends, ie not snuff) so long as you remember that IT IS NOT REAL!!!! It does NOT represent how a real woman orgasms, or what real people find pleasurable. Not how real lesbians play around in bed, and not how little preparation anal sex requires.

I do enjoy watching porn from time to time. It makes me hornier. But that's just me, I would never tell someone they should watch porn because I happen to like it. I do fantasize about being degraded sometimes (not extreme stuff, mild, like some name calling etc) but that's -MY- personal tastes, not societies.

It can turn into an addiction, much like many other things in life. It can be harmful if that's what a person expects from another. It is purely fantasy on a screen, it is not real.

just curious, what if it was a fully clothed woman in a provocative position? Foul or fine? ;)

My best friends dad told me of a story about watching a beastiality porn with some of the other bouncers he worked with when he was on the road with some band. It was called "nick the pig" or something. The point of watching it, for them wasn't to get sexually aroused at all though. It was for the comedic value of how disgusting it was. Kind of like posting or talking goatse.cx links or tubgirl.jpg. Hell people have T-shirts for those now.

I somehow don't think that porn flicks have symbalism at all in them. Porn flicks aren't exactly famous for having a very well thought out script. The sex sequences are there merely for people to get turned on for watching people have sex, not to look down at anyone. They just don't have that kind of thought put behind it. Or any thought put behind it.

I just find it weird that people get turned on by watching other people have sex. I never quite got that.

Personally it's more the idea of sex than the fact that those exact two people (or more ;)) on the are having sex, for me at least. It's like when I'm kinda lazy and/or have no fantasies to masturbate over, I look at porn.. too bad a lot of the moaning of the women is sooo obviously fake, that's a turn off.. but I can get turned on by hearing good moaning, because it gives a clear visual and audial stimulation.. hm.. hard to explain.. ah well... nevermind ;)

To me porn is similar to alcohol. Lots of people enjoy it, and have the right to enjoy it. But what it can do to some people, and make some people do is just plain scary.

As far as women's degredation in porn, yes I think much porn is very degrading to women. But we live in a society whith a history of treating women like second class citizens. It may be better now than in the past, but we are still second class, and a lot of our porn today not only conveys that but contributes to that as well.

I want all the benefits of a free society, so I have to take the bad with that as well. Face it, as long as we have men in the world there will be a market for porn. We can't and shouldn't do anything like making it illegal. However, we need to nurture a culture that has more respect for women. Parents need to teach their children about sex, and what is real and normal as opposed to what is fantasy and fake. Sex is too much of a taboo between parents and children, and society suffers for it.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Hey, it's legal. But anyone who thinks it doesn't cause immature people (who emcompass a LOT of our society) to get an innappropriate expectation of the other sex, and relationships, they are seriously delusional. LOTS of people watch porn and EXPECT that womyn, as well as men actually are supposed to act like that. And when porn gets violent, then there is trouble.

If you want to watch it, go ahead. But wasting one's time defending such a pathetic thing is SAD. IMNSHO, porn is pathetic and EMPTY, and what is that to say about those who spend an inordinate amount of time looking at it?

Get some real life, for heaven's sake. JEEEZ. it's possible to "run out" of fantasies? These people are JUST the customer the porn peddlers have created. Maybe they need to stay AWAY FROM porn for a while and work their imaginations. It is amazing what a GOOD RELATIONSHIP does for even the NEED for a fantasy. Maybe try that. Some people get so jaded from pornography that it makes REAL relationships to others nearly impossible. SO they want more porn, which makes it harder and harder to relate to other people, so they watch MORE porn ect ect ect ect.

JMO. You wanna wank off to some chick sucking horse dick, it's just too sad for me to contemplate. I can't imagine my sex life, my relationship life or my life in general being so empty..

EXCELLENT point! And, like alcohol, those who are not only drawn to it, but spend more and more time with it are those who will have the most problems with it.

As if this was a fact. As if one was better than the other. IMO, being a pro is probably preferable to fucking on camera, with all the disgusting things you are required to do, and having thousands of people jerking off to your image for eternity.

BTW a LOT of prostitutes DO end up doing porn and a lot of washed up porn "models" end up selling their bodies, there isn't much of a distinction between the two "professions."

Some women feel this is cool.. did you notice the webcam-masturbating stuff in the Real Kinky was a big hit? Several female (and male!) members watched eachother.. same goes for the boobie thread etc.. a lot of girls like the attention. Plus there are female porn directors.. so.. what.. are they forced into that as well?

I'm kinda interested in the statistics on this.. where did you get this information?

There are men who watch porn and can still relate to women and be good lovers. And then there are the immature men who are selfish in bed and these are not the men who should be watching porn IMO as it will give them an unrealistic expectation.

I used to consume porn, that is wack off to it. Of all the porn I've seen, I've yet to see one where a woman cums and pretty much of it is degrading. With me it's a love-hate relationship.
I had to quit watching the trash because it did mess me up. It is hate material, it is. If it doesn't make men think less of women it does make the woman who consumed like I did, to hate men. I'm not saying every woman who consumes porn will hate men but that the porn industry has a way to go to make porn more palatable and acceptable to women.

Thank you, liguana I appreciate your candor and your view point. I am glad you were able to heal from this, too. :)

Nope. Never even looked in there, except to move an occasional thread. Never had the desire. What Bear and I do in the bedroom isn't something I want to or need to discuss over the internet in great detail. <shrug>

Too bad you don't come there more because you could see how a lot of women have different opinions from yours although they aren't abused, opressed, forced or whatever. You seem to be pretty biased on the subject most of the time (what about my second question, for the statistics on the 'fact' you posed?). Yeah, the webcam thing was big and so is Jugs own private naked-forum from what I've heard. Lots of girls (and guys!) are showing their bodies and their masturbation-session to others because they like to see others and like to be watched.
