    NOT GETTING THE JOB.

I did not know where else to post a thread on this.

I feel that I have on more than one occasion had an interview, have
been qualified, well dressed and well spoken, and thought the interview went
real well.... but did not get a call back for reasons that are not acceptable.
I wish it were for something I could change, but I feel that because I was myself, which means just being an open minded (liberal vegetarian) I got shafted.
I am really pissed about this. What the hell am I supposed to do? Is there any way that I can get back at people for this? It is a totally unfair abuse of power.

what reasons do you think? you should be aware the whole interview prosses is sometimes just to satisfy legal, and the job was already promised to someones brothers second cousin. just do not give up and do not settle, it sounds like you have a self asurance that will carry you as far as you need to go

yeah, what hippiehillbilly said. Accept he left something out. He shoulda said: "until it sucks your soul dry."

Amber, I was FIRED because I spoke my political beliefs openly. My co-workers were self-admitted rightwingers, they hated what I believed in, and they secretly had me fired because "I was working too slowly".

There IS a war on progressives in this country. From the individual to the mass movement.

I would say put on a mask of what they want to hear for the interview, but when you get the job show them who you really are. Just my 2 cents...

Seems that putting on the mask might be harder to do than say. In some places, has to be a deep mask, nothing in the eyes, the voice, the carry, because it's like they smell it. Scary almost.

you hafa manipulate the system...its good to be open and honest and not hide who you are, but that will scare them at the beginning. from the beginning its good to be somewhat submissive and eventually once you've lured them in a bit and have them thinking what a great employee you are maybe you could put in a couple ideas here and there about how you feel on certain issues...they'll have more respect (hopefully, unless they're stubborn jackasses) for your views because they've seen your determination and will to work hard for your job. Once they can see you as a person and not your views they'll have more respect for your views.
Otherwise, if that doesn't work and they decide to fire you when they hear of your 'radical' notions, then you can go to court for justice!

people abuse their power wherever you go, in the real world, and even online-look on here:bannings, editing & closing of threads, total bs on a free speech forum-about as free as Bush's white house briefings

First off, Revo - I don't know what to say... but I am glad you posted on this.

What Gurk said rings with truth, *pensively looking down and shaking head*..... ok let me give a little detail about the interview... I was sharp and precise, and polite and friendly, they we're very "this is a young office and it's very laid back etc...." so living in a red state hell I was really getting my hopes up. They pointed out my job on an environmental lobby and said "so ... you're an activist" I did'nt know what they meant by that. I said "Well it has become part of my roots"... "but I am not out to convert anyone currently". I did mention I was a vegetarian but only because they gave me the impression like they were really cool. I think they deserve some bad karma for letting me feel so comfortable and letting my hopes get built up. But I must say I did have a very tiny strange feeling I could'nt put my finger on that night.

I think I am "cursed", there's something they can sense about me that I can't shake off during the interview. But one would think they would not have bothered with an interview after seeing my resume which makes it obvious that I have not walked a straight path in my career, I left IBM in 2000 and since then I've worked on horse farms, waited tables, environmental lobbyist and finally working with children with special needs which only gives me 20 hrs a month currently which is why I'm looking for another job.

I just don't get it. I could have never predicted this state of affairs. I saw an interview with that Coulter woman this morning (just out of morbid curiousity) and it was frightening. Is she fooling anyone into thinking she has true intellegence? I hope not. I wish I could say I've never seen such a pretty woman look so ugly on the inside but sadly I can't.

The reality of being on the left when the right is running things really does suck. I feel like Rosa Parks. It is so unfair that my livelihood is being squashed into fragments for all the wrong reasons. Even if getting up and moving to ....say Humbolt county were the answer I just can't do it until I'm financially prepared. *sigh* *grr*.

Where do you live? Maybe you should relocate to a more liberal-friendly place. I live in Texas, a very conservative state, but I am here in Austin which is hard-core liberal. I love these college towns!

Well, I have college loans to pay off, and I am getting to the age where just any job isnt gonna cut it, so I am gonna try to stick it out here for 3 more years til' i get a masters degree in counseling... also my mother is here and she is my strongest family link. If after that I am still irate about this place I will most likely move to one of these college towns you speak of, ie: Humbolt state, etc. Austin I hear is nice, but I can't take the heat, literally ;)
