Massachusetts Gov, Charlie Baker Announces Stay-at-Home Advisory, Mask Order, Restaurant Curfew

10:00 pm curfew until 5:00 am

Gov. Charlie Baker announced a new stay-at-home advisory and mask order along with what amounts to a restaurant curfew on Monday in response to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Massachusetts.

"The data points to a clear need to do something about these trends now. What we should not do to deal with these trends is shut down the economy or close our schools," the governor said at a press conference. "The simple truth is this -- too many of us have become complacent in our daily lives. We're doing much better than many other states and many other countries, but here too, we've let down our guard and have work to do."

"Massachusetts just became the latest state to reinstate some stay-at-home restrictions, as cases of Covid-19 continue to surge in states across the country.

After the state reported 1,139 new coronavirus cases -- bringing the total amount of confirmed cases to 155,660 -- Gov. Charlie Baker announced a series of target interventions to slow the spread Monday, including a Stay-At-Home advisory.

"This time the advisory will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Residents should stay home between these hours with exceptions like going to work and to the grocery store," Baker said during a press conference.

Further, all gatherings -- limited to 10 people in homes indoors and 25 people outside -- need to end by 9:30 p.m., he said. Everyone over the age of 5 will also be required to wear a face covering in public."

Sounds fairly useless, stay at home between 10 pm and 5 pm when 90% of the population stays at home anyway

Number of fines for not wearing masks actually issues in the UK

"LBC asked all the police forces in England how many so-called “fixed penalty notices” they had issued in the first month since the rules came into force. Of the 19 forces that responded, all but three said they had issued none at all."

Number of face mask fines issued by police in England revealed - LBC

Perhaps out in the boondocks where you live things close up at 10:00 pm, but for some people nightlife begins at 10:00 pm.

Take for instance the OMNI Parker House in Boston where Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh served as a baker from 1912-1913,
and Malcolm X was a busboy in the early 1940's, Dining is usually available until midnight, and the bar is open until 2;00 am.

Closing at 10:00 pm is a huge loss in revenue. x 1000 other establishments

So what percentage of the population of your state is ever going to be out in those hours at any given night

The stay at home order doesn't apply during the day

It's soooo transparent, it's government officials catering to people like you that want something done, without them doing shit, without them further wrecking the economy and tax revenue

Night time curfews aren't based on science, there is no science saying you are more likely to contract the disease at 2am vs 2pm

And mask mandates, how many people in your state have actually been given a fine?

100? And how many of them are ever even going to pay that fine?

    Total la la land man

France was back up to 854 deaths in one day on November 3rd

They have 1/5 of the population US does, so 854 is the equivalent of you guys recording more than 4,000 deaths in one day

The mask-wearing advisory is more restrictive than a similar pronouncement by Gov, Baker in the spring.

Gov. Baker: "We're making this clear for everyone. No more exceptions, and no exemptions for when you can maintain social distance,"
"It's our hope that this simpler, more straightforward rule becomes easier for the public to follow and easier for local officials to enforce this mandatory order this way."

Well, I can give you the figures for the state of Victoria in Australia

And they are pretty pathetic, 19,324 Covid fines issued up to October 11th, for all types, breaches, masks

Only 845 of them have been paid (4%)

In Australia, unless it attracts an arrestable warrant, which they don't, you just don't pay, and nothing happens

There are 6.5 million people in that state

19,324 is 0.3% of that population, and that's over 7 months in a place that was supposed to have one of the strictest lockdowns in the world

It was never really real if only 1 person per 2500 square kilometres per day was ever getting fined. Which is what the Victorian figures amount to

As for figures for your state, or anywhere in the US, knock yourself out, good luck finding any

My state we never had any kind of 5km type rule and masks only were strongly suggested

Actually, think we did have a distance rule there for about a month in April, but I never had any police approach to ask

.....and I never set foot in the western half of Sydney anyway

@Dude111 the only smokescreen out there is the one Trump is blowing up everyone's collective ass.

The virus is a virus. W've all been warned for the last decade or more that a serious one was going to infect us. Remember ebola, marburg, zika. etc? They are all just the precursors to a widespread pandemic. Which is what we have.

The only conspiracy is that of the Trumps admin trying to cover it up, blame it on every one else, and telling people it will go away after you inject bleach into your veins.

That's the really appalling part of it all. And to listen to people spin their little 'theories' is just too much.

Facts are facts, and science is science. Voodoo is voodoo and disease is just disease.

Not so fun fact about COVID-19 Scientist has discorvered that the virus has mutated in mink, and been transfered to humans, governamnet has now decided to kill all mink, and close down all mink farms/breeders, plus put the people who has the new virus in extreme isolation to prevent it from spreading.

    That's horrifying.

However, may I ask, what are they doing raising all that mink? For fur?

This virus is now completely out of control and gaining momentum..........

New coronavirus cases in U.S. hit record 103,000 in a day
    Published: Nov. 4, 2020 at 8:05 p.m. ET

The United States set another record for daily confirmed coronavirus cases as states around the country posted all-time highs, underscoring the vexing issue that confronts the winner of the presidential race.

For the first time in the U.S. — or any other country — the daily case count topped 100,000 on Wednesday, according to the COVID Tracking Project, which logged 103,087 new cases.

The surging cases and hospitalizations reflect the challenge that either President Donald Trump or former Vice President Joe Biden will face in the coming months over the pandemic, with winter and the holidays approaching.

Public health experts fear potentially dire consequences, at least in the short term.

Trump’s current term doesn’t end until Jan. 20. In the 86 days until then, 100,000 more Americans will likely die from the virus if the nation doesn’t shift course, said Dr. Robert Murphy, executive director of the Institute for Global Health at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, echoing estimates from other public health experts.

A day after smashing the single-day record, the U.S. leaps to a new one: 121,000 cases

For the second day in a row, the United States on Thursday recorded over 100,000 new coronavirus cases in a single day as daily records were broken across the country.

The country burst across the 100,000 threshold of reported cases a day earlier, the first time it had done so since the pandemic began. The total count of new infections Wednesday was at least 107,000, according to a New York Times database.

By Thursday evening, the count in the U.S. had hit more than 121,000.

Twenty-three states have recorded more cases in the past week than in any other seven-day stretch.

Five states — Colorado, Indiana, Maine, Minnesota and Nebraska — set single-day case records on Wednesday. Cases were also mounting in the Mountain West and even in the Northeast, which over the summer seemed to be getting the virus under control.

Massachusetts recorded 1,761 new cases the most in a single day since early May.
