Depends, it's not hard to ride a dude ranch horse and go out on the trail with a beginners' guide, but riding well -training a horse, or showing one, or riding just any horse that's hard to handle- does take quite a while to learn! Why'd you ask -if I know what you want with the horse then it's easier to tell whether you'll realistically be able to do it or not.

Then you'll be fine if you go to a dude ranch where they hold trail rides for beginners... Or you can take a few lessons if you'd like that better... Call around a bit in your neighborhood, you're in Texas so there should be plenty of places :) Just don't try to get up on a horse for the first time & then keep up with a buncha experienced friends ;)

I havent ridden a horse in so long. Its fun though. Its really easy too. You just start off at a walking pace and a trot at first, but Ive never got to really ride a horse when it was running at full speed.

yeah, I'd say get a couple lessons first, preferably on the horse you'd be riding on the trail or whatever. Otherwise you won't really know how to control 'em... horses can be trained in different styles after all. I used to ride horses from time to time (not very talentedly though)... some where trained to a bridle, some to knee movements, some even to just how your body shifted in the seat.

Go ride a horse! It's so fun, I've been riding since I was seven. It's probably a good idea to take some lessons and get a general feel for things. Then you can really have fun, like loping and trotting. I've never ridden english style, but I love western. I even used to do a little bit of rodeo!
