I found a site that has a really easy pattern for a prom dress. Now, its from a Mormon site that is trying to encourage "modest" prom dresses, but I figure if I fit the back with princess seams (the front shouldn't be that hard b/c i have a small bust), made the neckline a little lower(they actually ask you to check to make sure its high enough  ), add a side slit up to my knee, make it in bright red, make the sleeves a bit shorter, and otherwise totally mutilate the original modest pattern(they really emphasize modest), I can have a pretty cool dress. I really like to design my own patterns, but I always need a place to start and this is where I found it: http://www.modestprom.com/sewagown/. The one I was going to do was the ModestProm EasyGown, and the style I'm going to mutilate is the burgundy one (I like the gathered sleeves). But I'm going to use a scoop neckline instead of a square one. What do you think?

it's not really a style i'd chose, but i'm sure if you looked in catalogues you could actually find a pattern for the mutilated style

That site is great...the dress makeovers, makeup, and coverup pages are silly.

We have that site so girls don't have to go to prom dressed as little sleazebags with their chest popping out of the top of their dress.

Jeez, don't get all over us just because we have more respect for our bodies and have higher standards.

woah man, just cuz some people like to show a little more skin doesn't mean we have no respect for our bodies. The only time that applies is when you give that body away to anyone for anything. Since when do women have to cover everything up for respect?

srry purplemoonbeams, didn't mean to offend you, but i do think clothes are better when they are fitted cuz other wise they hang...at least on me. and didn't mean the neckline would be low enough to show clevage, i don't have one. But i want it lower cuz i have a low bustline, i want a slit so i can walk, and i want it red cuz thats a great color.....but i don't want it sleazy. Note, im keepin the sleeves.

Yay for Lucy! I'm with you. I'd hate having to cover up all the time. We have beautiful bodies, we should be free with them and respect that. Cute idea with the prom dresses by the way.
