I like this show, obviously it is not quite the same as Friends but it is still good and it is more of a traditional sitcom that won't change anything. The only problem is, as we are seeing what the character of Joey is up to, I feel asthough I am missing out on what is happening to the others. I am one of those who loves the characters so much, that I don't mind if it s not hilarious.
erm i saw joey the other day and i thought it was entertaining but not at all hilarious, it managed to steal two or three laughs...nothing special.
Personally I'm not impressed. It chokes the odd chuckle out of me but.. meh. I find the woman that plays his sister remarkably annoying.
I thought she saved it .. what was that thing she did the other week ?? flicked her teeath and slapped her ass.. i have no idea what that meant but it was funny..
Of course Friends was better, everyone knows, but most things are inferior to Friends so it is unfair to judge Joey by those standards. Joey is a fairly good sitcom, Friends had the advantage of having six great characters that people care about, they were all brilliant. There was nobody that was annoying in Friends apart from Janice, it suggests that some people are rather intolerant of people.
Has anybody re watched earlier Friends ?..Talk about awkard in places..yeah we can (as fans) laugh because we have hindsight and have seen them in better situations ..so forgive (now) if its a bit lame in the begining .. I hope 'joey' at least gets time to grow and mature.. i do think it is better than the friends of 10 years ago (well almost ).
I think Joey will last as long as they want, because such is the nature of peoples adoration for Friends, there will always be people wanting to know where the characters are and how they are doing. It doesn't matter if it is not side splitting.
Yes there were some very patchy moments indeed, series seven really seemed to dip in quality, you could hardly concentrate on the episodes due to Mathew Perrys startling apearance, thankfully he seemed to beat his troubles. However he has been in hospital recently due to the rection to some prescribed medicine he took so who knows? Friends certainly owes its success to its actors, they managed to turn sometimes mediocre writing into something memorable and cherished. If they had chosen 6 lesser actors this show would have disapeared into the depths of obscurity.
I like it, but i agree with the other poster...it really makes me miss the others. I am the hugest Friends fan, i think all the seasons were awesome. I have most of the seasons on dvd, and i watch them religiously :& i even liked janice...hehe :& but yeah, his sister...... i really can't stand her face! And i DESPISE Jennifer Coolidge, the slut who plays in agent. She can't act worth shit. She was funny in American Pie, only due to the given role and cuz she barely had any lines, but man i love Estell, Joey's manager back in New York.
I think Joey should be cancelled and I didn't like Friends all that much- except for the 1st couple of seasons. It was unrealistic- New Yorkers are not at all like that. My opinion and respect it .
I respect your opinion, I just don't consider it to be valid. Friends being unrealistic is not really going to harm a sitcom. Mork and Mindy is unrealistic. They were 6 incredibly beautiful people and witty so yes New Yorkers are not really like that. Seriously though you seem to be saying that all New yorkers are the same. What matters is that those characters are like that, they are not supposed to be representing to New york to the the world and they don't reflect New York anyway. Also, you think an incredibly popular show should be cancelled because you don't like it? Pretty foolish.
I respect your opinion to but there are many other people that feel the same way I do. New Yorkers are not all the same but the portrayla of the show -everything the writing was ridiculous after Season 3. I know alot of New Yorkers that hated the show and did not like it- so , there U go- And bringing up Mork & Mindy was a waste.- Robin Williams has propelled himself to higher heights- that's an acheivement
was it about New yorkers ?.. i noticed some similarities to me and my friends (not as extreme as in the programe but small little things) ..and we live thousands of miles away .. 'Universal themes' i suppose.
Well I was just pointing out that realism is not always needed, paticularly in a sitcom. Mork and Mindy may be dated but it didn't matter that it was unrealistic it was still great. The writing in Friends has never been brilliant, it is the actors that lifted the show and made you care about the characters. The show and characters has nothing to do with New York apart from the fact that they happen to live there. No one believes that Friends is a true depiction of New York or its people, its just another case of people trying their best to be offended so that they can complain about it, its all so petty when it is aimed at a Sitcom. No Aliens complained about Robin Williams portrayal of them, they realised that what matters is, if it is funny.
SO, all 8 Million people who live in New York are the SAME? Not like the characters on Friends. Of all these 8 million people, NOT ONE are anything like any of the people on this TV show? IT'S A TV SHOW! It's all pretend. It's TV. It's unrealistic by definition. I don't think Joey will last an other season. Spin offs usually do very poorly. People expect the magic from the original show, and that can rarely be recreated.
