Am I the only person to think they are massively overrated?... I mean... out of all the new music coming out at the moment, I've heard so many bands that I think are making better music... The Futureheads... Kaiser Chiefs... Kasabian... Towers of London... Athlete... The Kills... The Killers... Interpol... I just don't rate Franz very highly... Too much a Joy Division tribute band mavbe... Fly...
Nope, you're not. I think they are VERY average, and suspect it is their arthouse image that has more to do with their success. As you say there are many new bands that have better songs.....and can play their guitars!

They're not terrible by any stretch of the imagination and "Take Me Out" was of the finest singles of 2004 I reckon. But I found the album to be quite the let down aswell, rather annoying in parts to be honest. But they've shown they can make a success of it, which means the labels understand they can flog it, which means "The..." bands galore. And really that beats boyzone bands galore. I didn't think The Killers album was anything too special either. Again some great singles, but "Hot Fuss" quickly fades into something very uninspiring. But aye, as much as I think they're overrated, I'm glad they're there. Plus obviously they're all on their debuts, potential wise I think many of them have shown in certain parts that they could be something special, so rating them with that in mind is kinda tricky.
Yeah... I did like Take Me Out but nothing has really inspired me since... a friend burned the lp for me and I think I've only listened to it once or twice... just failed to capture my attention... To be honest... as far as the other bands are concerned, I'm only really going on singles that I've caught on VH2 or wherever... I have enjoyed the singles from the Killers but I've not listened to Hot Fuss yet... but they do impress me more than Franz on what little I've heard... I know that Bloc Party is being hailed as the next big thing... I've only heard one song and it completely failed to do much for me... I'm at that stage in life where I don't feel the urge to go chasing the next big thing... I know there already has been enough excellent music created that I can catch up on without having to give a fuck about whatever bands the nme is raving about... but is good to keep an ear out just in case... Fly...
i do'nt think they're rubbish...i kinda like them the darkness deserve to go to the bottom of a dark pit and stay there though i'm loving athlete at the mo and i can't wait for the next Muse album....
Some of them (or one of them) were in a band called the Yummy Fur out of Scotland that I like. I haven't heard much of Franz Ferdinand...but its not a bad thing when it comes on the radio compared to the alternatives.
