my favorite free read is Romance of the Three Kingdoms (www.threekingdoms.com). If you're familiar with video games, a bunch have used it as a basis for their story lines. However, if you aren't an avid reader, I don't recommend it, the whole things online, but it's usually about 1600 pages (120 chapters) when printed. Otherwise, there's a bunch of fighting, mythical figures, subplots, and good old ancient chinese ass kickin.
