Would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this interesting free exhibit in central park.I got to ceck it out this past weekend and didn't really know what to make of it. I had noclue what to expect and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. Just wanted some opinions form others who witnessed " the Gates"
I didn't see them in person, but from what I could tell in photographs/news clips, I didn't like them very much. The orange color made them look too construction site-esque. They didn't really blend in with the surrounding very well. They just didn't do anything for me.
Yeah, I don't see how that is art. I saw the creator on tv and they were talking about how they didn't care what anyone thought because the art only had to mean something to them... well... that's fine, but it's hideous. Personally, things were already hectic enough, now they've presented harsh colors for added stimulation.
haven't seen them in person yet, but they appear to defile NYCs major green space with construction orange things
I find it a little strange. Its impressive in scope in how many of them there are, but personally if I was a New Yorker, I'd be pissed that the crown jewel of the city that still provides a somewhat natural experience was turned into some freaks idea of what art is.
I like most of their work but fromt he pictures i don't think I would be able to appreciatte the gates. i did like the canvas wall they put up in northern california and the one with the white cloths in I think germany or china I can't remember. I do like Christo's sketches far more then i like his large scale stuff.
I was in Central Park this first day of the Gates, and I like them I thought they looked better in person than on TV.
