Depends on how you define insanity.

If you didn't attack the Capitol of Michigan, or the one at Washington DC, then it's not about you. The point I think is that some who desire assault style weapons think they have a right to do as they wish after acquiring the dangerous tool.

A mass murderer is not using freedom of choice, he is trespassing on the freedom of others.

I don't want to answer that question, but it took a lot less than that.

Children of Alcoholics | Impact & Effects of Alcoholic Parents (drugrehab.com)

Children of alcoholics are four times more likely than other children to develop an alcohol addiction. While about 50 percent of this risk has genetic underpinnings, the actual home environment also plays a role.

Research shows that a child’s risk of becoming an alcoholic is greater if their alcoholic parent is depressed or suffers from other co-occurring disorders. Their risk also goes up if both parents are addicted to alcohol and other drugs, if the alcohol abuse is severe and if there is violence in the home.

Alcohol is a drug so feel free to substitute the substance of choice

Children of Alcoholics? Are They Different? - Alcohol Alert No. 09-1990 (nih.gov)
Children of Alcoholics: Are They Different?

An estimated 6.6 million children under the age of 18 years live in households with at least one alcoholic parent (1). Current research findings suggest that these children are at risk for a range of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral problems. In addition, genetic studies indicate that alcoholism tends to run in families and that a genetic vulnerability for alcoholism exists .

so while not all are destined to be their certainly is a predisposition

So, you would be in favour of expanding expenditure on welfare and social programmes, upgrading and building up public housing and introducing universal healthcare?

You're on the "team" that rewards and encourages poor choices and failed responsibility (as long as they're beholden to you) while simultaneously demanding an impeccable level of personal responsibility for those who bring attention to the hypocrisy.

And if that's not enough, demand "equal treatment" (but only for the things that you perceive to provide political advantage).

No shit. An assault weapon is defined by law. The rate of fire of the projectile, type of projectile, method of delivery, number of rounds stored, the functional design of the weapon, the purpose, etc, are all considered.

If someone chooses to attempt murder with an assault weapon (hammer), do you support that freedom of choice?
If someone chooses to allow free access, or chooses to support someone's "right" to owning hammers which are easily used as assault style weapons, do you support that freedom of choice?

    You're rambling again.
What do hammers have to do with gun legislation?
Please enlighten this poor old soul as you seem to believe I'm brain washed or stupid or something.

So... how would one go about killing 9 and injuring 27 in 32 seconds... with a hammer.

That's what they want to do to us, to effectively disarm us while still being able to make a weasel claim that they haven't infringed on the second amendment.

Then of course law abiding citizens will comply, criminals will gladly outgun them while laughing at the law.

Our best course of action is to teach people how to use firearms.

So, rather than direct our efforts to get people to make better choices for their kids, we want to concentrate our energy on limiting firearms access to the citizenry???

And then use that as part of the argument???

Wow. Flamboyant hypocrisy at its best. Exposed.

Which would very much seem to back up what I’ve been saying – you are very happy to spend a lot of time and energy in the promotion of the gun lobby stance which seems to be greatly if not wholly based on the idea of tackling symptoms – but have given little or no thought to something that might tackle the causes.

So, would you be in favour of expanding expenditure on welfare and social programmes, upgrading and building up public housing and introducing universal healthcare?

Thinking this over, and I'm going to ramble a bit, it seems to me that the anti gun legislation people are those who believe in individual rights as opposed to social, or group rights.
Those that believe in pro gun legislation believe in individual rights to the extent that the rights of the individual don't interfere with the welfare of the many.

Anti gun legislation people believe the individual exists apart from every other individual. Each individual is an island separate from his or her environment and responsible for no one but themselves. If they succeed or fail it is due solely to their own efforts.
This is one reason they hate government, or the government. A sole individual doesn't need a government or the government as participation in a government or the government requires cooperation and compromise. Independent individuals don't need to cooperate and/or compromise.
We see this manifested in many way's, if you're sick, poor, in a bad domestic situation, get raped, etc. it's your own fault as you are the only agent of reality.
Guns are the ultimate expression of this mind set. If you have a gun you can exercise ultimate individual power. If any of the "others" interfere, well you have the means to carry out your individual agenda.

Pro gun legislation people see themselves as part of a whole, not sole individuals.
Each individual is tied to his or her environment and responsible for the well being of that environment. If they succeed or fail it is due partly to their own efforts and partly to the environment and situation they find themselves in.
Government, or the government is a seen as a form of cooperation and compromise, and a way to improve the overall environment and everyone residing in that environment, we're all in the same boat mentality.
This is manifested in individual and governmental efforts to aid those who find themselves in difficult situations, even at the expense of themselves.
Guns are seen as a necessary evil which must be kept in check as guns allow those individuals who see themselves as the only reality to wreck tremendous havoc if they go amok. Guns are seen as necessary to protect social order, as in police, military, and self defense, not to protect the egos of select independent individuals.

What his means is that anti gun legislation people will never understand the need to protect society at large, as they don't believe they are members of a society, they believe they are lone independent agents.
They will never see the benefit of gun legislation until they develop an understanding of the interrelationships of reality.
