I am a vegetarian who is considering becoming a vegan. is it hard finding food to eat if you are a vegan? My two fav foods are mac and cheese and pizza, would I have to stop eating those if I was a vegan? is their a vegan pizza? vegan cheese?
It is always more difficult to find food when you are a vegan. But people do it, more now than ever. I have found it to be inconvenient at times, but certainly worth the trouble. No, you wouldn't be able to eat mac & cheese or pizza. Unless you got either a vegan pizza or a pizza specifically made with cheese without rennet or cheese made from soy. Which you couldn't get from Pizza Hut or Domino's or the like.
If you go vegan you can't even just eat cheese without rennet. You have to eat soy cheese or rice cheese. It's going to be difficult when you go out to eat. Indian, Chinese, and Thai restaurants are the most vegan-friendly places to eat, from what I've experienced. As for pizza and mac & cheese, you'll have to buy vegan cheese and make it yourself.
UMMMMUMMMM!!! I love Indian, Chinese and Thai food!!!! I'm a vegetarian, but I often have "vegan" days. I don't drink milk or eat eggs, it's the cheese that gets me. I love cheese (of course I prefer organic, rennet-free), and have it probably a couple times a week. I've been wanting to try some vegan cheese, like soy cheese or rice cheese. But it looks so nast!!!! Does anyone like these "cheeses"??? Are they're any good ones?
Pizza express in Reading, UK do vegan pizzas. They are really nice to. It is probably a good idea to tell them that you are coming in advance so that they can get the vegan cheese out of the freezer. Matt
Why doesn't cheese without rennet suffice? I thought containing rennet meant it was created from an animal, and that if it has no rennet, it wasn't ... ? Someone enlighten me please. What exactly is rennet?
yes, there is fake cheese. my parents have been getting it before i was even veg. at least it says its dairy free
Rennet is a hardening agent, it is made from something like the lining of cow stomachs....urkle. There are cheeses available that are rennet free however they are still made using animal milk, if you want to avoid animal products entirely you have to eat soy cheese and other such things.....
http://www.imearthkind.com/ ta-da..vegan cheese. ive never tried it, though, but if your serious bout being vegan, could be an option to help you get over your love of 'real' cheese.
The cheezley mozarella style soy cheese is very nice. I tend to just order veggie pizza's without the cheese... they're just as nice
Veganism is definately worth it. I've been one for over a year now, and it's easier every day. I don't eat much vegan cheese, though I have some vegan mac & cheese in my kitchen right now. Best stuff ever. It's called "Chreese" because everything is made from renewable plant sources. I stopped eating cheese when I became a Vegan. I missed it for maybe a month, but it's really not that great. At one point a little over a year ago, I ate meat via a burrito accidentally; it totally grossed me out. The same thing happened with cheese, and it was fucking nasty. The lesson being, that if you're not surrounded by it and it's not constant, both meat and cheese are disgusting. Again, it gets easier the longer you do it. Chreese also sells vegan versions of the powdery cheese that you get in those Kraft Mac & Cheese boxes in all different flavors. Well, a lot. http://www.chreese.com/ Nacho... Gravy... good stuff. Congrats on even thinking about going Vegan. Here's hoping you decide to go all the way. I'm online via AIM fairly constantly if you want to talk more about Veganism with me there, under the same name I use here. -Kenneth
