Just got my bus to convert to a traveling hippy-mobile. Gonna go grab some tools to remove the seats and purchase discount material to make the curtains. Pix coming soon but I wanted to share the news. Saw some awesome scenery on the way back from picking it up. Must go back there again
Oh! Put bean-bag chairs in the back. They are EXPENSIVE but you can find good prices at used stores, or thrift shops. Please, post pics.
totally fill the back with a sea of bean bag chairs (i always wondered what it would be like to swim in a sea of bean bag chairs)
I totally plan on having bean bags as chairs. Found some companies that carry more eco friendly beanies. I'm doing the cheapy version of a conversion. Only what I totally need for Burning Man and a few wants. Ikea has nice folding beds that are inexpensive. Rather blow the money on comforable mattresses, eco-friendly flooring (cork/scraps of natural carpet), used appliances. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a cheap generator or high low range convertor/inverter. Gonna order some special additive for insulation (ceramic additive for paint). Regular insulation is just too nasty and icky to use. Just wish the durable paint could be found in less poisonous gallons. Toilet, black water tank and the like will have to purchased new. Er...I'd rather not get those used (phew!) So that's it for now- Her name is Cloud Dreamer (which will be her license) She'll be cloud white/deep ocean blue. All the curtains will be of different colors.
Yay! good for you urbangal! I just bought a VW campervan so I kinda know how you feel! Your bus sounds awesome and I'd love to see some pics too. Happy travels, are you going to live on the road for awhile? Thanks for sharing your good news peace august
wow thats so awesome!! Good luck with cloud dreamer My friend is buying a van too and is planning to put a ton of bean bags int he back... its so exciteing re-doing a van isnt it?!
My boyfriend and I have an old school but from 1969 that we have already fixed up and converted into a traveling home, this summer we are driving it to canada and are going to live in the forest for a few months along with the rest of our band. You're without a doubt gunna LOVE your bus! good luck on fixing it up...it is no easy feat
DON'T I KNOW! I spent a couple of hours twisting myself up like a preztel (no easy feat when your a big gal) taking three seats outta the bus. I think I have a system down finally so maybe I can take out three or more next weekend. I know some skoolies only take a weekend. How they do it I dunno!
We thought about a bus for the next move, but I got this awesome deal on a 1975 Dodge 1 ton van. $500 bucks. It belonged to an old handyman, and he had been fixing it up all these years. (new paint, engine work, tranny, brakes, new interior etc.) It's like new. He gave it to his nephew, who really didn't want it, so nephew sold it to me for cheap.
ooh! the ultimate way to make it good vibes! get some bright coloured curtains. my ex-girlfriend had a vw bus, which i made pink with white polka dots curtains - instantly, we hadn't changed anything else, we had a place we wanted to be. the light outside makes the whole bus pink and white, which you can't deny, make the place lighter ^_^
http://www.skoolie.net/gallery/The-Cloud-Dreamer Here she is! So far three seats and all the cusions are out. I also spend a few days drawing up plans of what is gonna go where. Small section of the floor is warped otherwise she's in pretty good condition. Also a co-worker turned me onto a rv salvage yard that's local. I can buy (mostly) what I need from there for sometimes way cheaper than ordering it.
Hey, I have a 72 VW Camper. I'm a member of the Full Moon Bus Club. I head up the Outer Banks Tribe of it. Might want to stop by our forum for some good ideas and to ask questions. www.fullmoonbusclub.com
LOL. Skoolie is the nick name of people who purchase old school buses to convert. A VW camper would be great for short city trips were TCD would be a mess to turn corners with. I haven't ruled out my dream of owning one some day.
Ya know when you park your house, you'd rather not have to drive it again just to go pick up something in town. A vw would be awesome for that.
