There are already a thousand G-Dubya threads...but I have something interesting to add!

My great godfather (my dads best friend's godfather, or my goddaddy's goddaddy) is George Bush Sr! And I still don't like our incumbent prez.

I'm not gay, but the ban on gay marriages is breaking my heart. I can't believe it.

Kerry and Bush seem very different but on the political spectrum are very close in reality.

So my question, who do you think would truly make an ideal leader for the U.S. or anywhere?

But on a more realistic note, the Dali Lama (sp?), Dennis Kucinich - he might be kind of a small personality and not willing to take decisive action, but who knows? Also, me.

The answer is that there is no one person who would truly be a "good leader" for any country. We need SELF GOVERNANCE. Dennis Kucinich, Ralph Nader, the Dali Lama, Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu - they might all be great guys, but no one of them would be capable of forcing the ruling elite in this country to actually stop what they are doing. No powerful personality is going to check the greed of the folks who want to profit from oil, from weapons sales, from privatization of water supplies, from decimating rainforests. The only "one" who can stop those things is you - and me - and everyone else TOGETHER, collectively resisting. And until the people themselves are energized into massive social change, we are truly doomed as a people and a nation and a species.

I agree completely. People always think that voting for a certain person will transform the country/world, but it takes action on our own parts. I imagine most people on this website already live in a pretty responsible manner, but we have to do more. We have to promote this lifestyle to others, spread awareness around.
